6.5/10 is quite a fair score for PES 2010, I believe. It is definitely no higher than a 7/10, in my opinion.
The problem a lot of websites and magazines are going to face is in regard to the fact that many scored PES 2008 and PES 2009 extremely well. Too well. The fact is that 2010 is better than both but, because 2008 and 2009 were scored so well it would require brilliant scores to put 2010 ahead of them. And 2010 is no where near an 8/10 or a 9/10, nevermind a 10/10!
Personally, I think I'd score them as such.
PES 2008 - 5/10
PES 2009 - 6/10
PES 2010 - 6.5/10
None of the three have been brilliant. And the improvements between each have been too minor to see more than subtle score improvements. For example; 2010 improved the game speed and revampted the Master League. But the commentary has not improvement. Goalkeepers are still a major flaw. And there is now a problem with response times. Players can acclimaties to the latter but, the point is they should not have to. So although the score initially goes up, it falls, again, and cannot really settle that far ahead due to the fact the game has for the most part stood still as opposed to take strides forward.
Perhaps the fact that online is now playable (although still not great) should see it take a slightly improved 7/10 score.
I think Gamespot is on EA's payroll big time this year, they have given the great NBA 2k10 a lower score than Live, now they have utterly badly rated this game. Its a good thing I don't take their reviews too seriously anymore.
how much have ea paid gamespot this time then??? That score is an absolute joke and i hope people don't take it seriously.
I'd love to speak to gamespot and ask them to explain:
How they scored pes 2009 7/10 and yet state that pes 2010 is an improvement on pes 2009 and yet score that 6.5/10!!??
Fair enough if they prefer fifa, but a 6.5 is a joke!!! Pes 2010 has improved the champs lg, masters lg, graphics, gameplay, integrated europa lg. It deserves an 8/10 at the least and i'd personally give it a 8.5/10.
The sad thing is gamespot is one of the big sites so anyone undecided is gonna see this review and think pes 2010 is pants! When it's actually a big improvement. A 6.5 score would suggest the game is almost unplayable!
6.5/10? That is a JOKE!
At the moment I would give PES2010 a 8.4/10. Easy.
And I would give FIFA10 a 9/10 Easy.
But Gamespot are taking the fucking mick! Have they even played the game? They sound so retarted that they where probably playing PES1 and thinking it was PES2010!!! WTF?
The lowest score anyone can possibly give PES2010 is a 7.5/10.. ANYTHING lower than that score is a JOKE!
F**k it pisses me off how people don't review games properly. I respect thier score but come on!!! 6.5?? Its a JOKE.
You probably sick of me saying JOKE now so i'll stop now.. But seriosly that score is a JOKE!!
Gamespot should come back in a few months time and then give the score. I can assure you it would be over 7.5...
You need time to review a game. All these reviewers get like a few days with it. If I was to review something I would give it AT LEAST a month..
JOKE
exactly mate!
Quite simply, what many of you lot want from the game is not what others expect. People who are interested in a next gen title from konami with innovation like the original ISS and PS2 titles have not got that. Whereas FIFA is at least making an effort, I think mst reviewers are coming from that standpoint.
Batman arkum asylum was a brilliant game, game of the year at moment.
This is an extremely valid point. PES has a feeling of "... been there, done that..." due to the fact that it has not progressed enough in the span of three to four years. It has failed to make any major strides since its days on the PS2 and has stood relatively still from 2008 through to 2010. Couple this with the fact that FIFA has made massive strides forward, progressing massively in recent years, becoming a true next-gen football simulation, and it is little wonder the tides are turning against Konami and in favour of EA.
FIFA was awful, it truly was. It was an abysmal effort throughout the series on the PS2. But since the leap to the next-gen consoles FIFA has really evolved, and unquestionably evolved for the better. Firstly, that scores points for effort. In the same way Konami & PES lose points for lack of effort. And secondly it scores points for succeessfully breaking new ground and improving drastically in doing so. Where as Konami & PES lose points for resting on their laurels while taking steps backwards instead of forwards.
Many of the good aspects in PES 2010, the areas that were improved upon, are areas where Konami dropped the ball in 2008 and 2009. So all Konami have really done is catch up on themselves, correcting previous errors, all the while failing to really forge enough new ground. The tactical sliders and skill cards a nice features, and the revamped Master League has been a long time in the making but, with the failure to address core gameplay and goalkeepers it ultimately makes little impact. One step forward. Two steps back.
To all you people that think it's great please tell me whether or not you experience all the nonsense in it.
When you pass does it go to your player like it should or does it only happen 50% of the time?
Do you just overlook all the crap parts of the game, or do you just not encounter it?
