"FIFA has the atmosphere, the crowds and certain licences we don't - and everybody knows they've got better commentary than us. I can't see that changing. And some of the stuff they're doing with the collisions looks great, depending how it works as you actually play.." - Jon Murphy
Quite frankly Jon, I find that statement pathetic. It almost suggests that FIFA have the exclusive rights to have atmosphere and crowds. Fifa has the licences, fair enough, but there are many good commentators they could get but never seem to bother.
With regards to atmosphere and crowds, this should be one of the easiest parts of the game to get right, it doesn't require clever AI programming or anything like that, it's just some sound files triggered at the right times, and simple graphics, animations and effects for the crowd, it's not like they have to interact with players or the ball.
Of course the gameplay is what matters and it's sounding like they've done a cracking job which is great news. However to just discard the rest as if it's not that important or worth the effort is very disappointing as for real football fans it's the small touches that make a difference.
