What is the best size to make a template?
After some trial and error creations, I have come to the conclusion that a template 256x400 will fit perfectly on a shirt. If you make the image any bigger or smaller then you will have to resize the image which will lead to a loss in quality. The resizer in PES isn't the best, so after resizing images your shirt logos will look pixelated around the edges. As I mentioned before, I don't have a PS3 to test this size template on so if anybody could import a template onto their game and report back the results it would be appreciated.
How do I know where to place items?
If you've made your template 256x400, you can use the following image to help guide you where you should put the logos and shirt designs.
As you can see, using the default layout for the chest logo it stretches the top part of the image so you may want to adjust for this when designing the shirt. Each line of colour is 40 pixels high and should help you estimate the size the shirt manufacturer and sponsor logos should be.
Where can I put the chest logo?
You can only use it on the front of the shirt (the chest, if you will), as illustrated in the image above. It is impossible to put an image on the arms, shoulders, sides or back of the shirt.
Should I put an emblem on the shirt image as well?
I would recommend it. If you set Emblem to Yes then you wouldn't have any control over its size or position on the shirt. By setting it to no it gives you greater control over the positioning and size.
GIMP Guide
Using GIMP, a freeware image editing tool. Other programs like Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro are more widely used but they cost money to buy so here's a guide using a freely obtainable program.
The first thing you'll need to do is get your images that you wish to include on your kit image, so it'll probably be the manufacturer logo and a sponsors logo. There are plenty of places on the internet where you can find the correct images, with the most obvious being Google Image Search. This is a great way to quickly find good sized pictures of logos for big companies but for some of the more obscure sponsors and manufacturers, you may have to search a little harder.
If Google doesn't return anything, I usually search on Brands of the World as they have a large collection of logos from around the world. It's also a good site to find some random sponsors if you're creating a team yourself. Checking out the individual buisness' site will always give you a logo of some sorts.
Once you have found your images, it's time to create the image in GIMP.
Load the program up and click File-->New
A new dialog box will pop up. I suggest setting width at 256 pixels and height at 400 pixels as this image should import onto the shirt in PES without the need to resize it in game. Click the advanced button and in the fill with dropdown box, select Transparency. Click Ok to create the image.
Your image should look something like this
Now it's time to put the manufacturer logo on.
If you've saved the file to your hard drive, go to File-->Open and navigate to the file's location. Open it, and GIMP will open the image in a new window. In that window, press ctrl+c to copy the image to the clipboard. Then, go back into the image you created and press ctrl+v to paste the image.
If you haven't saved the image to your hard drive and just have it up in your web browser, simply right click on the image and select copy image. Then in GIMP, paste the image in.
To put the image onto a new 'layer', click Layer-->New Layer.
By seperating the different parts of the image onto different layers, it will allow you to tweak different parts of the image without affecting the other parts.

As you can see, I have a black background I need to get rid of. To do this, you need to use one of the selection tools to select the background, and then use the delete key to remove it. I will be using the Fuzzy Select Tool for this. The Fuzzy Select Tool works by selecting one colour that the user clicks on and then selecting all of that colour in the image.
So, as I want to remove the black background I click anywhere on the black and all the black is selected by the tool. I then press delete on my keyboard and the black is removed leaving just the white swoosh behind.
Now I need to resize the image and move it into a different position.
On the toolbar, click the Scale Tool, or press Shift+T
With the scale tool selected, hold the ctrl button on your keyboard (to stop the image looking squashed when you resize) and move your mouse up or down to make the image larger or smaller. When you're satisfied with the size, click Scale on the dialog box. To move the image, select the Move tool by either using the toolbar or by pressing the M button on your keyboard. With the tool selected, use your mouse to drag the image to a different position.

To add the manufacturer logo, do the same process as before. Get the image, remove the background, resize and move. Eventually, you'll end up with something like this:
To save the image, click File-->Save As. Choose your file name and make sure you use the .png extension. So to save the file as My Shirt, you would type in MyShirt.png.
An extra dialog box should pop up, click Export and then click Save. Your final image should look something like this
