I don't know if I will switch to PES 2018, maybe if there are enough new things, but I am not the kind of people that buys a new football game every year for "better gameplay, upgraded game modes and updated transfers", because those changes are always very small and almost unnoticeable. Some things should be an update from the old game. But people keep buying it, so they don't need much effort and dedication. Sometimes, I feel that in the times of ps2, when there was no internet, developers putted more effort into their games, because they knew that they had no way to update it later, so they had to sell them complete. Now, it looks like games are released 50% done and then they do the rest. For example, I loved Gran Turismo 6 on ps3, but at the time of it's release, it was incomplete. They started updating, adding cars and tracks, but then they abandoned it and the game is still not complete today (maybe 80% or so).
It needs more than that to make me buy a new game. I changed from PES 2016 to PES 2017 because I got a ps4 (my PES 2016 was for PS3), and that's a big change. The graphics are better, we can import kits easily, more slots for teams, etc. But in gameplay, the biggest change I saw was in the Goalkeepers, I feel that they are better in PES 2017 than in 2016. But other things remain the same: For example, it looks like you never get a penalty in this game (at least, I played PES 2016 and 2017 and never got a penalty in both of those games).
my plan with PES 2018 would be - playing PES 2017 with only national teams, playing PES 2018 with only club teams, no shared kit limits anymore, no other limits in editing, on PES 2018 i add Austrian league and some other leagues, maybe i hope there come features like for PEU League as a pyramid, so for example PEU 2 league to also add multilevel league systems, at least i hope it because i know it is a much requested feature...
I'll more than likely switch to PES2018, but I'd like to see what new features and that there are as I haven't seen any yet. Same with FM but I don't play that as often as I once did. Maybe I'll give Alderney a bash on there as a club team in the England pyramid! As for the likes of FIFA, nah. It's going to be much worse in terms of improvement, as there won't be much. I guess it's another reason I'll go with PES, as they've been slowly improving since the rubbish from 2007-2009.
years ago i played FIFA and PES, i think, PES 6 was outstanding, at that time, far far better then any FIFA. i had the feeling from 2012 on that PES did not really improve but FIFA did and as i stopped playing on PC and started on consoles i bought FIFA every year, the last 2 on PS4, 2016 and 2017. 2017 was really disappointing to me, so after i played it only 10 weeks i thought it would be time to give PES another chance and for me it was much better so from now on, i will buy PES every year instead of FIFA.
That year i buy FIFA only because we also have a Nintendo Switch and FIFA comes for it and i think it is really cool to have a football game on a console like this which also serves as a handheld.
I played PES 2009 on ps2 (I still have it), it's a great game. So many hours I spent creating crazy teams! haha  Some time ago (before I had ps4 and PES 2017), I was almost buying ps3 version, since I found it for something as cheap as 2€, but I ended up not doing it.
Let's see if I change to PES 2018, I don't think I will buy it first day (I rarely do that), maybe in Christmas or so.
I was almost going to buy FIFA 17 because I was very curious about The Journey mode (I played the demo), I ended up not buying it, but if the price is low when FIFA 18 is out, maybe I'll buy FIFA 17 to try it out.
you did not miss anything, The Journey was a hype without reason, very very disappointing, it ends after one season, it is far away from reality, you don't even have statistics.
i played it, ended up at Manchester United, was loaned out to Newcastle and came back to United after half of the season. Then i played as starter nearly every game, i think i made 30 assists in 20 games, most of them for Ibrahimovic, and also scored about 10 goals myself, just to get called up for national team at the end of the season which also meant end of the Journey, it would be a great feature if they combine it with player career. I loved to play player career on FIFA, i had, from FIFA 2015 to FIFA 2017 at least one career for every position on the field (but quickly gave up on being a goalkeeper, i was horrible), cool feature (PES has something similar), if they would do something like The Journey with a complete career, that would be an outstanding feature, but one season sucks, you start making trial for academy, end up in first team, get loaned, come back to first team and then you are star of the team, everything in only one season, something like that never happens, i think even Marcus Rashford when you think about the beginning of his career would laugh about that.
