PS2 Controller Issues

I am currently playing PES 2010 with a PS2 control pad using a USB converter. I imagine this is quite common amongst other players and so I was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same issue as I have.

The problem is that instead of 360 degree controls it appears to only allow an 8 directional controller making slight changes of direction impossible as well as restricting the ability to place passes. The smallest directional change would appear to be 45 degrees which makes a mockery of the supposed new super sensitive control system. I know that there are some people out there who still like to use the D-pad but I am not one of them!

It would appear the only solution is to fork out for a X-box 360 controller. If anybody else is having this problem I would be interested to hear, especially if there is some solution that up until now has alluded me. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. I have given this a try but as yet have not any success. The Xbox controller software does not seem to work with my windows 7. Has anyone else had any luck?

Just noticed it's a PS2 pad you're talking about. I use a DS3 using the drivers from motionjoy, and the xbox emulator works perfect on Windows 7 Ultimate.

I use a PS2 pad and the Play.com USB convertor.

I get very fine degrees of rotation using the analogue stick.
Still use the D-Pad though !

The convertor I got doesnt need drivers so its not a driver issue

Why do you not use keyboard? I can play PES well with keyboard.

You're right, I could use the keyboard but the controls will be no more precise. My point isn't that one cannot play (well) with a d-pad or the keyboard but that I would like to have the option to try the new features. In some ways 360° controls may prove more complex and difficult to master but I would conjecture that if one mastered them he or she would be better at the game than one who is a master of the more basic control system.

Thank you for your input all the same.

I'm also using a ps3 gamepad, all working good with NBA or other games but in PES 2010 it shoots on his own every time i get the ball and always shooting backwards. The ps3 controller it's fine, i think is smth from the game. Anyone got any idea what could be the problem ?

I'm not sure (because I use a PS2 pad, rather than PS3), but with mine it will shoot on its own if I dont press the [analog] button. (even though I use the d-pad for movement), so try making sure the analogue button is lit if you havent already.
