wtf is up with defending in this game?

its a joke, konomi restricts so many actions. Your players oftenly CANT sprint, you cant cycle to the proper defender, and it the com takes advantage of this bs at every opertunity..

There are so many bs goals where players just sprint down the middle and go right through you cb's because you cant ever switch to the right defender (set pieces are bitch because of this too).. Then you cant ever take the ball from the com in the midfield because the doesnt let you sprint, instead you crab walk and just watch the com dribble by you..

This is just stupid why does konomi make it like this, its so easy to fix, and the obviously made it like on purpose..

na dude the game literally restricts you from sprinting, if you press r1 oyou only do a light jog. Then when the com is out of tackling distance it lets you sprint, but it wont let you rotate to that key defender that is in a position to take the ball away.

so lets say that x player is cutting in towards my goal, the game will only let me control my sideback and not my left cb. This is a problem cuz as we all know your defensive ai just stands there, so while im chasing x down, my cb is just creating a gap, and i cant switch to that defender to close down space untill x is already behind the defense..

^It never happens to me, I know the defending should have been better (not defend more, but less restrictions. But overall the defending is good) but whenever I press R1 my defender sprints not jogs.
Oh, play on semi assisted in playing options because that way you can select the player yourself (I know player selection [L1 button] is sometimes a bit frustrating but on semi assisted it's better).

very true.. it happens to me.. play with some small team or so in hardest mode.. you will be wondering why your defense is there in the first place.. you cant select and even if you get a player, he wont run.. damn..

^Running is not the problem. Selecting the player is. But running is fine.

I always press those buttons altogether whenever I lose the ball.
I've been using that technique since the very first time I played winning eleven/pes series in ps1 ^^. It works well against computer.

there IS a problem with the running ...its more thAT when you start sprinting .....instaed of running they crawl , then jog and THEN sprint..in like a 1 second time radius. its wierd. i want to start running immediately but they dont actualy start running straight away

also there is a situation where your defenders surf against the guy with the ball almost like there is a forec field barrier on the attacking player...i think this happens if you run from behind them and close up. the guy alsmot looks like he is running into a brick wall and cant get infront of the guy.

and i play on semi assisted and i have a problem with my play switching as well..but that could be because i tell my defenders to defend DEEEEEEP

Definitely some odd things happen with your defenders online, as mentioned above it could be down to button delay when you are changing man, often your defender seems to check his run or briefly run away from the forward leaving a gap.

Not button delay, mate, try d**kless cheaters.

The normal button lag should be no more than a second or two at worse. Not enough to affect your game much but does ruin the flow of the game.

However, what you are talking about are cheaters who mess with their upload speed (I think) so that your actions are delayed by 5 seconds and more hence why you feel you have no control over your players.

Exactly, this is very annoying.
But when it is the other way around, it goes like this: the CPU just brushes past my player, miraculously appears in front of him and runs away with the ball.
When I try it, it looks like my player is surgically attached to the shoulder of the CPU and can't get past him, no matter what buttons I mash. The only choice - besides letting him run - is to hack the CPU down from behind with a tackle. Given that the Refs are screwed up, it is only a foul in 50% of the cases, so I usually take that option...

Hope that is not true. Some people will use anything to have a good record.

Played a guy online the other night and when I went to mark settings all my players were marking someone at the opposite side of the field. It was like a circus, men running everywhere. Lost 4-0.
I couldnt change the settings. Sure it was a hack, either that or more unlikely a one game only bug. Never happened since.
Didnt manage to get the guys name, but beware.

This is eaven a bigger problem in BAL. Your Cb:s sometime look like bodyguards on both sides of the CF making sure the opponent CF can walk in the box and get a shot on goal.

Selecting your defender, defender running out wide without prompt, and being unable to sprint are major issues with the game.

I find the problem relates to which player is selected rather than the running. The split 2nd when the comp selects the wrong player can be crucial against the better players - especially online!
