If you copy all of the files EXCEPT for the 'System Data' then you can get around this problem. Thats what I did and it works fine for me. Great file by the way. I did notice that Elano still plays for Man City instead of Galatasaray. But im sure I can fix that myself!!

All you need to copy is the 'Edit Data' save that comes with a downloaded option file. But for the sake of a few mins copying the strips I would recommend it. Personally I think it makes a HUGE difference to the game

This probably won't make you feel any better by I got a scoring star after my 1st season. I scored 21 goals in 46 games and when I checked my stats at the end of the season, there it was :) I play 'SS' (but they played me as a CF) so it may depend on your position.
