I don't think it gives them money, but what it does do is screw your result. So if you're winning way more than 3-0 you'll just have a 3-0 win recorded. It can sort of influence your goaldifference in a tournament, perhaps it even protects theirs (ie they lose 3-0 instead of 8-0)
