Am I the only one?

After almost 10hours of game playing, I don't know if I am the only one who got this feeling but, I was disappointed.

Grand Theft Auto IV has an awesome storyline..
Let's admit it, R* disappointed most of the Grand Theft Auto fan's with the quality promised and gave in the game.

For instance, let's take the silliest examples, don't you notice cops always spawning even though there is no place for them to spawn from?
That's not all, that happens with most of the cars, when you get in an "Infernus", suddenly out of now
Other than that, we got used to the Grand Theft Auto series for having stuff ADDED and not REMOVED.

Buildings; none of them are accessible, for the exception of one or two who are mission wise linked.
Most of the users here pointed out what they think is missing in the game, game play kind of view.. so I am not going to evoke them once again.
Now some of you might tell me that it's the first game in the next-generation of consoles, but so what? Grand Theft Auto III was a first with a new engine and so on.

Most of the previews featured that you can have a social life with most of the pedestrians in town.. Where is it?!
Most of the missions are repetitive, and it gets kind of boring for the exception of some missions.
Restaurants are all the same, what happened to the feature where you can enter a Police Station?!, 3Shops and not so much of a diversity in them;
ex: 2kind of glasses, 2kind of hats, no t-shirts, no shorts.

Sniper?! What's it to use for? Other than missions that is.
Did you try going up a skyscraper and trying to shoot someone? Suddenly everyone disappears.

All in all, this is not my first or second time I play the Grand Theft Auto series, I've been playing it for a long time, so it's from a point of view that was waiting for much much more, and got a good game. Which doesn't deserve a 10\10.. not at all in my point of view.

Looking back, GTA III had hardly any features that would keep you coming back for more, compare that game to San Andreas, and it lacks...

No parachutes, no helicopters, not much variation, no customisation, fairly small map, not much radio. The list could go on and i've only touched the surface with things that you couldn't do.

So what was it that kept them coming back for more? It was the jump from 2D to 3D. People couldnt get over the masterpiece R* had created. Essentially, this jump was bigger than the one from the previous gen GTA's, to current gen.

We've seen it all before, which is why people are dissapointed with the game, because the game is basic (for a GTA title) yet there isnt that 'element' which left people breathless when GTA III came about (which was the 3D visuals).

So in theory, its a bit like a step backwards.

As the series progresses, more of the old stuff is bound to come back.

It's a brilliant game.

Why?

Because it's basically got rid of everything from GTA SA that was rubbish.

Which is practically everything - the gang culture, fat & muscle ratings, pedal cycling (which in fairness was a neat idea, but pointless), burglaries (again, pointless), more character customisation than you get with a Barbie toy, more car customisation than you get with Burnout (which is an overly bad game anyway), flat wastelands of nothingness... and the one that took the piss... graffiti tags!!!

And it's kept stuff like swimming and erm... well that's it really.

Only thing from SA that GTA IV misses is a mountain, and Rockstar kinda comitted themselves when they placed it in Liberty City; unlike an actual building, a mountain isn't just going to pop onto the landscape.

I agree on the gang culture part;
It is actually in GTA IV 10 times better since gang members don't dress like assholes all the same.

But for the other customizations that comes back to each and every GTA player, I like some of them, maybe you don't, you can simply not use them, it does not affect on the game play, if you understand what I mean.

Other than that where are the taxi\fire fighter\ police-FBI missions?

I understand the fact that it's the first game in the next gen..
But still, look at GTA, it was different, and like singey said, it keeps you coming back for more.

Don't worry the next one will be fantastic and the one after that if they make one will be even better. Like Vice city was better than GTA III and San Andreas was better than Vice City. Seriously the people who prefer Vice City to San Andreas are clueless. The only thing better on Vice City was the music.

Fair point about the customisation aspects (although I still felt it was very annoying) but say for the eating aspect, wasn't it something like if you didn't eat for ages it diminshed your fat, then muscle? Annoying, and pointless and a time waste (I haven't played GTA SA for yonks so I can't remember it too well).

And I didn't realise there's no taxi etcmissions! (Having not actually got the game yet, though I've played it a fair bit now)

That's a ****ing joke! They were great. Aside from the taxi ones reminding me of the travesty that is Crazy Taxi.

Wait...
If I remember correctly you call up Roman and select "Job" and you do taxi missions for him. And you access the police computer to do police missions.

Yeah mate, but I don't know where you are right now in the story line, Roman's taxi service station gets ****burned down**** so you cannot use the taxi missions any more.
As for the police missions they are limited.

Not really, it's the other way around I'm afraid.

SA is quality, but I find it hard to beleive that anyone who is a true fan of the series actually liked all that jet-pack, Area 69(?) etc shite. It completely ruined the game and it was just laughable tbh.

In my point of view the jet-pack removed some of the game's realism.
As for the SA, Vice City stuff, it's a point of view that we can go on arguing about for ages.. but I have to agree that VC's radio stations where amazing.

I'd toast to that - basically for months on end I just wne ton Vice City, got into a nice sports car, and did jumps while listening to Wave 103 (Video Killed the Radio Star; Pictures Came and Broke Your Heart - Oh Wa-Ow)

Yes, it gets ****burned down**** but later in the game ****he buys another depot on the second island.****

Definitely Maybe

I only got me Xbox in March so I never took any notice of the hype. I can see why people would be disappointed if they've been promised X, Y and Z and they're not in, but as I didn't know about any of that it never bothered me.

Personally GTA 3 was by far me favourite as it was simple but fun. I didn't really like Vice City and hated San Adreas as they were far too complicated. All the shit about getting your haircut and gaining muscle was too much of a faff on. I think some of the features that were promised for GTA4 sound good in theory but would be crap when implemented.

GTA4 isn't perfect though. The radio stations are shit, the missions are repetitive (how many chase missions do we need?), and going on dates and taking Roman out bowling loses the novelty after the first few times. GTA 3 > GTA 4 > Vice City > San Andreas imo.

I loved the game one problem for me was it was to easy to complete missions, I only struggled on the Bank Job mission which took me like 10 attempts.

The next GTA will be alot better, R* are good at adding decent things and removing crap.

Have faith.

And about this thing with Police then the same cars spawning it's happened in every single GTA game.
