Annoying Defending Problem

Hiya, i was playing PES4 today with a few mates today and one of them got at least two goals against me every time by using three forwards. This wasn't the entire problem, the real problem i had was when he ran down the wing with one of them to the touchline, cut back in and just centered the ball and there was always 1 or 2 strikers free to slot the ball home.

Shamefully, i was using two at in defence at first, but the problem still pesisted when i switched to flat back four

Any suggestions on how to counter this shitty way of scoring?

Cheers

Jon

1: defend the sides with your SBs (should be placed close to the sides, but not too close)
2: use very tall CBTs with high jumping stat, so that they head the balls first (there are many, since this is a requirement to be a good CBT)

yea use a beter defence

If you have nothing constructive to say, then dont bother.

I don't like using the better teams in the game,i like challenges

Just place your defence quite low on the pitch, and try to attack fast. This way the opponent doesn't get so many counter-attacks. If you're into posession playing, a good way is to keep your side backs low and just slide the opponent if the situation looks bad.

dont try to tackle him at the side lines wait for the opponent to pass in to the box, jus manually move ur defender to mark the forward he will pass to, if he runs towards goal jus drag ur keeper out and he shud close him or he'll try pass and u cut that off with a slide tackle or move ur player to intercept it. thats what i try ne way but problem with that is that its vulnerable to the shot feint to get passed the keeper. hope it helps

My tip - when an opposition player is running down the wing, control a central player and run them into the box. While your doing this, hold :square: to make a wing player run towards the opposition player and close them down. If they get the cross in, manouever the player you are controlling into the way of the ball and intercept.

If you can do it right it works really well.

Yeah, that's a good tip. I found :square: to be much more efficient than X. With X the opponent most often gets a free kick...

On the contrary, if your second player makes contact while pressing [], the only thing left to do after the opponent dribbles past him is to commit a foul. As you press with your second player, have a finger on L1 and time it at the time when you pressing player closes down on opponent and opponent react by changing direction. A pressing player's reaction to an opponent's change of direction is slow.

3-5-2 with 2 dmfs. That way you will dominate the midfield and the 2 dmf's will cut off the supply to his 3 strikers.

Also dont use a flat back 3, make the central defender out of the 3 slightly further back, almost playing as a sweeper. That way he can cut out any balls that go over the top.

What i do against my mates is with any formation i use i always have at least 1 dmf and a sweeper, this way it causes my mate problems as i usually have a 3 on 2 situation when he counter attacks, then if he get's past 2 of them(not very often) he has a big sweeper waiting to nab the ball right off him:)

I'm advocating a back 3 or 5(as zygalski) suggested is becuz derez 3 centre backs. Your problem was that when the opposing winger cuts u find urself short handed in defence. That's becoz you had 2 centre backs be it a 2 man defence or back 4. With the winger cutting in, it's effectively 3 central strikers vs 2 centre backs of yours.

I've always wonder why people would employ more DMFs to give the defence more support. If you had to use DMFs to help out your defenders, you might as well call them defenders. The defence, midfield and attack are
seperate components of a team. The defence defend, the midfielders ensure possession be it thru retaining possession in the form of tackling or holding on to possession by keeping the ball and the attack score goals. As simple as that. Think about it :)

Don't quite agree. The midfield's job is to also attack and defend. I usually play a holding midfielder in front of a back 4 who helps cover when the opposition attack. If you use him correctly this can be very effective. Try and move the DMF towards the player attacking with the ball so your defence holds and keeps shape.

Claude Makelele probably will not get into your team then I suppose. The bloke is less than 6 foot tall, not quite ideal for the "DMF/CB" role that you fancy.
