I think the area could do with a restructure. I know I've asked about this at some point in the past, but I believe if it is to take off and become a valuable section of the site (which, as one of the mods there, I would like it to become) it needs to be organised a little differently.

I think having an area "behind-the-scenes" where I could create the thread that contains the bet information and the ability to actually place your bet would be of great benefit, as presently all active bets are simply threads on the main page. As you will have seen by today's FA Cup update, this is awfully messy.

If my suggestion was put into place, we could then have separate threads on the main page which were updated with the latest bets that have been set up through the various categories, and (for example) each sport/discipline within these threads would then have a place for users to discuss outcomes, what they think the good bets are, and so on. These threads would obviously be maintained by us mods, and updated with relevant links whenever new bets are put up.

I think implementing this system now would make it easier to accommodate what (I hope, at least) will be a major growth in the amount of bets that are put up in the future.

On a side-note, is there a "Next thread" button anywhere? I seem to remember there used to be - this would be really handy. For example, today, I set up 32 bets and on all of them I made the mistake of writing "December" instead of "January." These all needed amending. Having to go into a thread, edit it, and then go back to the thread list to find the next thread was a real pain!

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Firstly, simply double click in the text area on the forumdisplay.php page to rename it.

I am not entirely sure I follow what you said regards the organisation, so let me clarify. You basically want the bet threads to be placed in a seperate forum which is not visible nor searchable by users... only moderators, and instead have one thread in Bookie for a set of fixtures linking to the otherwise hidden threads?

Spot on, boss.

Well click in the box surrounding the thread title on the forum display page (the one which shows all the thread titles)... you should be able to edit it from there...

EDIT: OK, forget that, I thought you were referring to thread titles not the thread content. The previous and next thread buttons should be just above the Quick Reply box? They always have been...

And indeed they are, I'm a tool. I can't believe I didn't see them there, considering I've known all along they were there. Although thanks for the tip regarding thread titles - didn't know that one.

How about the restructure? As I say, I know I asked once before and you told me to bugger off. Nothing like persistence and all that.

Sounds like a good idea but I see some potential pitfalls, the main one being this:

There is a new, hidden area where bets are created, viewable only by the Bookie mods and site admins. The permissions on the area are such that nobody can view it as a listing yet users who aren't allowed access are then directed to the contained threads via links from the main Bookie area. Surely the area access denial on their accounts will result in them not being able to view the thread in the same way that if I post a link to a thread in the Elite section, non-Elite members will be told they don't have permission to view the thread?

Well a forum can be hidden but still work if you know the URL - so that's how it would work. But, it doesn't HAVE to be hidden anyway really? Just a sub-forum of the bookie for the actual matches... with the main forum containing the 'Premier League Games 6th January' thread and the like.

That would work just as well.

In an ideal world, it would be possible to set up multiple vBookie events that are assigned to a single thread.

At present (as you'll know) the system restricts you to posting a thread before specifying that you wish to set up a vBookie event to go with it. It would be superb if I was able to open one thread (for example, January 6th fixtures) within which I could create 5 separate bets for the different matches on that day. I presume this is not possible, as we'd surely have it already?

From my looking into the matter (though in no technical detail), it isn't possible. It appears to be one bet/event per thread.

That's a shame - it would allow us to have everything in one place, but it's no great shame.

I take it from a quick glance that we'll be moving all open bets and closed bets to the relevant sub-sections and continuing with threads for fixtures.

We'll see how this works out.

Important Edit: It appears I can't move threads between sections within a forum I'm the moderator of. I presume this is normal? Basically, I wanted to move all the current FA Cup bets to the "Open Bets" section, and move all older bets to the "Archived Bets" bit.

This would be handy for me to be able to do in general, so I can move bets that have finished from the Open Bets section.
