Little help here people, cannot find a tutorial for this so here goes..

I have photoshop and can do the screens, i need the following...

1/ what size & file type do they need to be, before inserting
2/ maximum no of pixels/colours?
3/ Also where are the slots, ie what files do i need to replace?

I am looking to change all game screens so help would be appreciated! All help would be appreciated, i have some great ideas and will be happy to share them once completed.
