BAL Mode: Ratings?!

I've only been playing BAL mode for a very short time, but I really don't understand the 1,2,3,4 next to my stamina gauge. I have scoured the instruction manual and can find no explanation and the internet is proving just as hopeless. Could somebody explain it to me? Is it important or can I make the bench by ignoring it. Sorry if there are other similar posts out there. :)

these are strategy marks. in formation settings you can see it under strategy. each number is a different strategy the team is playing. for example: 1- CB overlap. check it out but it doesn't really matter, it has nothing to do with rating or making the bench...
