I have played both BAP (FIFA) and BAL modes and I'm sorry to say that the FIFA version is much better (and I'm a die hard PES fan).
Apart from the overall atmosphere of matches, which is much more engaging and exciting, one of the key reasons I think it works a lot better is because you key graphical feedback, on-screen, and in real-time, about the good and bad elements of your game (i.e. whether you're in the correct position, whether you make a good tackle or take a shot, etc.).
This gives you a much better understanding of what you are being judged on when you receive your rating at the end of each half, and how you are going during the match.
Personally, in BAL, i have had what i thought were fantastic games where i performed really well, yet received very poor ratings at the end, with no real explanation as to why.
I found that in BAP my skills in playing that mode, and therefore my enjoyment, rapidly increased as my understanding of how the game was judging me did.
I also thought that the the newspaper headline about your performance after each game was a nice touch (although a tad repetitive).
Just a thought anyway...
