Beginner's question

Hello all.

Couldn't find an answer to my questions in the beginners guide thread(or anywhere else on the web for that matter).

I'm on the verge of buying a used copy of PES 2009 for PS3 to try out the series, as I've become annoyed with EA's FIFA inability to include a create-a-team mode. The reason being that FIFA doesn't have my local team, Miami FC, or it's league, USL-1, so I'd like to create them, or even better, add a team to MLS from South Florida. Playing as some random Euro team is okay for awhile, but it gets boring playing as a team I have no emotional connection to. So when I found out users can edit teams/crests/kits etc. in PES I was very intrigued. But all I've been able to find out is that you can do these things, but not how to do it yourself.

I know you can download files, but I'm a graphic designer who does crest/kit designs for fun quite often in Illustrator/Photoshop, so I'd rather do it myself(plus I assume it is quite hard to come across a MLS or USL file to download). Basically I want to put my designs in the game and recreate MLS:

So first, a few basic questions involving the game itself:

1. Is it even possible to edit things to an extent that I could create MLS(which will be 20 teams in 2012/13)?
2. If that is the case, can you also edit the cups and which teams get into them(so I could create USL and do the US Open Cup, add the FMF for the CONCACAF Champions League and so on). Basically I want to convert the game from UEFA to CONCACAF.

Now for editing:

-What do you need to do to make the graphic files(crests, kits, etc.) themselves? What file format, what size, etc. etc. I'm fine with some generic players(i'll make some player edits, adding Beckham, Landon Donovan, etc.), but mainly I'm in it for the looks. Basically how easy is it to get something I've created on my computer into the game?

If anyone who is experienced at making custom graphics for the game can answer these questions, and fill me on any other details I might need to know, in it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello there:
I’m going to try and address your questions in order.
In PES 2009 there are 18 places for you to create teams. You will be missing 2 teams if you desire a 20 team league, but you can easily create those teams on top of other (replacing them) and then play an International League where you could use your 18+2 teams.
If you wish to convert from UEFA to CONCACAF then I would suggest changing the teams from the Champions Cup menu.
It is very easy and more so if you are a designer, to get your creations into the game. I would be more than glad to assist you once you get your game, and I can assure you that some people here have some option files with teams you would appreciate.
Any help, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Not much of a designer myself, I've done some EPL kits myself, basically just to add to Trevi's comment you can edit every club team in the game that isn't liscensed so 18 in EPL about 12 in Spanish some out of the rest of the world group and 18 random slots so plenty of spaces it just means they'd be all over the place, and its pretty easy, if not time consuming, to get your creations on the game, i know the kits need to be in PNG format ( not sure about logo's but probably the same) and its easier for kiys if they have a transparent layer, then its just a case of putting all your creations on a USB stick then transfer them to picture folder ( press triangle to display all) then start the game and go to edit, make the kit look as you want it then go to kit marking - create from scratch - import data - then go to appropriate folder in pictures and import data and place it on the kit, its the same process for badges and even chants ( please also be aware that there is a limit on slots for kits and badges but personally I have all EPL kits and keeper kits and most of the spanish kits and International kits on mine so theres loads of space, there's also a limit on the size of image you can import its no more than 4MB and it tells you how many pixels that involves) thats about it for sorry its so lengthy I do tend to go on a bit, any more help needed please ask , good luck

Excellent! Thanks for the answers guys! I just ordered the game today, so I'm looking forward to it. Made myself a Euro PSN account and tried out the demo yesterday, and the gameplay is great so even though potentially tedious, I can't wait to get in there and start editing!

Also, quick follow up question, how do the number/name fonts work? Are those customizable as well, and if so, how do you import that?

There is a preset number of fonts that can be used for either names or numbers, I don’t actually remember how many are there but it’s in the vicinity of 9 to 12 different kinds I believe.
