'Benchmarking' of Player Stats

Having downloaded a Championship OF I have set about amending the details of my beloved Bristol City. As a season ticket holder, I flatter myself that I am aware of the strengths/ weakness of the squad but what I don't know is how my interpretation compares to the stats of other in-game players.

Is there a rule of thumb in editing stats? I.e. are there particular attributes that only the top quality players would score highly on? or is it just that the top players have high scores across all categories, whereas 'lesser' players have more patchy scores?

Presumably the physical attributes (balance, speed) of 'lesser' players can be equivalent to their Premiership counterparts, whereas you wouldn't expect consistency or the mental aspects (response?) to be as high.

Grateful for any tips.

i'm about to start adding stats to my championship players. i'll look at poor premiership players in each position then average my championship players stats around them.

i'll vary them to give some better stats in certain areas but i dont want any to be able to gain promotion then take the league by storm.

Look at how the guys perform at their best day, and compare that with same-positioned guys in the EPL. Now, in the EPL they'll also have peaks when they perform better here or there, and when they have their best day.

With that in mind, take the player(s) who seems most fitting of your guys' best day and subtract about 10-12 points of technical stats like passing, attack, defense... you may use different players for different areas.

This method should be quite coherent and when you have the vertical up arrow, your guy will play at the level of the average performance of those whom you based for the stats :).
