i always play 3 CBs, and 1 DM, that always seems to be enough defensively, and allows you to either play 5 in midfield (2 wide players and 2 OM, plus the DM) with 2 strikers, or the old 3-4-3. my current formation of choice is actually 3-3-4, but for that you really need good players, which you might not have to start with, as you need good wingers and midfielders to cover the gaps.
