hi.. i heard the best way to burn is to use 1x speed for a patch game..i also understand that the new programmes like nero no longer support 1x.. is there a programme which can burn cds in 1x

It doesn't have to be 1x.
2x or 4x are good too.

You can also try CDRWin or Alcohol 120% and check their speeds.
The slowest you can do it at should be fine.

Although some sources say that the burning speed doesn't matter so I'm not sure any more.

The speed does matter sometimes, it´s the best for your console to burn at 4x speed, the risk of stutters in the game is not as high as it would be if you have burned it at max speed.
