Rumors on 2K Marin's BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams began swirling about the 2K Games forums today, flooding the board with supposed details on the BioShock sequel. Too bad they were mostly bunk.

2K and Game Informer both responded, saying the rumors that BioShock 2 would be Big Daddy-free were untrue. The rest of the details? Also lies. Big Daddies will be making another appearance in the sequel.

How?

You play as a Big Daddy.

In fact, you're the first of the lot, a so-called "renegade" Big Daddy who's on the hunt for a Little Sister of his own, according to a tipster who has the new Game Informer magazine in hand. You'll take out rival Daddies with your huge hand-drill and plasmid powers, claiming their wee sidekicks as your own. Similar to the first BioShock, you can choose to either harvest your Little Sister prize for ADAM or you can adopt her as your own.

That Little Sister comes in handy. She'll harvest ADAM from corpses strewn about Rapture, acting as a warning sign for when the Big Sister—the lithe, lightning fast enemy who will hunt your character throughout the game—has you in her sights. Based on her description, it sounds like she'll one hell of a fight.

From what we've heard, players will have access to all the things that made the Big Daddy such a menace in BioShock, with the character upgrades and options available in the first game expanded to keep things interesting. More details can be found in the new issue of Game Informer, which will be appearing in subscriber hands any second now.

Pathetic. The inclusion of the whole Russia-America idea is absolutely pathetic.

They also need to alter the game more than it would appear that they are. This series is destined to be ruined by the story for the third game anyway...they may just have rung the death knell that bit sooner.

Didn't like the first one, and I won't like this one.

That magazine cover looks interesting though

BELIEVE
I guess I'm the only one who thinks it will still be an enjoyable game. We all knew it wouldn't top the first BioShock, because that simply was arguably the finest game ever made.

As for no Big Daddys, to be honest, I expected it after seeing the sneak peak trailer released about 3 months ago. The video in which the was a girl holding a Big Daddy doll in her left hand, the girl was clearly not a "little sister" and led me to believe that BioShock 2 would feature Big Sisters instead. A welcome change, a difference that could make the game interesting.

The whole Russian war is skeptical when you want to be completely immersed in a place like Rapture, thinking about the outside world won't help that. But in turn it may help us remember that Rapture itself is completely man-made and that it technically is still part of the real-world, just hidden away.

I'm still confident that this game will be very enjoyable, and I'm sure that Take-Two will make BioShock 2 a worthwhile experience. Personally I cannot wait, especially during this huge drought.

Roll on Rapture.

I don't really know how anyone can't like the first one. Originally I didn't know what to make of it, thinking of it as more of a horror/survival game (which don't really appeal to me) than anything. The first major area, Neptune's Bounty, was probably the 'scariest' part of the game, and after that I found it to be hilariously fun. The splicers are gold, being both total whackjobs and humourous with their dialogue. Something which I'm afraid may be lost in the sequel with the introduction of intelligent and serious Russians.

It somehow managed to combine the standard FPS that we're all familiar with, with brilliant new ideas (the plasmids), an actually intriguing storyline and a unique atmosphere never before experienced.

Didn't like the idea of it :/

Playing as a Big Daddy? :\

It'll be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Do people just question everything that is stated ? :faceplm:

I'm sure the developers know exactly what they're doing and have fully thought about everything, in thorough detail. Besides, the "Big Daddy" looks skinnier than the Little Sisters anyway.

We might as well just wait for official announcements. I think I made it clear what I'm looking for just to keep the series fresh and I hope I can end up sharing Hunter's vast enthusiasm.

I'm struggling big time for games at the moment as you can see here.

I think everyone is struggling for games at the moment to be honest mate, there's a major drought occuring. I've been playing on COD4 lately, and as good as it is, it's ultimately ran it's course but it just shows the lack of quality games coming out that I'm resorting to games that are years old.

I'll always be enthusiastic about BioShock, the sheer enjoyment I had playing the first one makes me believe it's impossible for the sequel/prequel to be shit. They'll know what they're doing and I can see them creating a very enthralling and twisting plot again with extraordinary detail.

EDIT: Just found this site, which seems like it will become very interesting as time goes on, and BioShock 2: Sea Of Dreams nears.

New info, and it does definitely seem legit:

Warning though, possible spoilers below!

BioShock 2 Info said:

• You’re a Big Daddy, and you get to use the drill and rivet gun. And you can use plasmids too. You can take little sisters from other Big Daddies and take them around Rapture to collect ADAM like you see happening in BioShock 1.

• The Big Daddy drill takes the place of the wrench. Can spin, but overheats so you can’t run it constantly. You can do the Big Daddy charging shoulder bash. You can heal your hacked turrets/camera bots. Incinerate upgrades let you throw fireballs and shoot a stream of fire. Cyclone trap can be hit with incinerate and become a flaming cyclone trap. Upgrade trees are more diverse to give you more unique options.

• It’s 10 years since the first game. The Big Sister returns to rapture, bringing back the Little Sisters with her. You play as the original Big Daddy. You can use the drill, the rivet gun, and you can still use plasmids.

• Little Sisters have been given a new look to be less creepy, as you’re seeing them from the eyes of their protectors. You don’t get your own Little Sister from the start, as you’re a renegade Big Daddy. So you fight other Big Daddies to get your own sister. You can still harvest them, but the other option has been changed to “adopt” instead of rescue. If you adopt the sister, she’ll ride on your shoulders, and you can go around Rapture looking for corpses for her to collect ADAM from. When your sister goes to harvest ADAM, a wave of Splicers will come and start attacking to try and harvest her. You have to hold them off until she finishes harvesting. You gain some ADAM from this, but not enough to tide you through the game. You can permanently rescue them, but the article doesn’t say how.

• The Big Sister is one of the surviving little sisters from the last game. She’s the new ruler of Rapture, and is the main antagonist of the game. With each Big Daddy you kill, the game lets you know how close you are to incurring the wrath of the Big Sister. When you do, the little sister you’re with will sing a song about how the Big Sister doesn’t want you playing with her, then you get jumped.

• Other info: Vita Chambers return, there is confirmed multiplayer(no details), audio logs are back, and Fontaine Futuristics is a level in the game.

That sounds a lot better. Lets just leave the Russians out of this...look what the rumours did to Arshavin :faceplm:

Yeah I have to agree while the Russian war angle didn't sound too promising, I was being optimistic. This actual plot though sounds quite intriguing, and could be quite interesting if done with similar atmosphere to the original BioShock.

I just don't know how the Co-Op/Multiplayer will work, and I truly hope they haven't let it distract them from the story.

After much internet hype and anti co-op forumites getting their knickers in a twist, 2K has said that there'll be no co-op in BioShock 2.

Thrashing all the internet rumours down with one swoop, 2K said on an official BioShock 2 site: "There won't be any spliced-up rhinos, Soviet invasions, or co-op, but you may very well see a Big Daddy or two."

They've also decided to remove the Sea Of Dreams subtitle for whatever reason. I liked it, particularly as I get annoyed with any film/game that just tags a '2' on the end as it seems like a half-assed effort. Still, it's no big deal.

They're aiming for a simultaneous release on all platforms.

I bought the original game on PC the other day and I cant get into it. I'm all 'for' atmospheric games but something about it bothers me, and I cant quite work it out.
