Burn speed question

I have a good friend that burns copies of my WE7 with different patches and he always burns them at x40. This takes about 2 minutes to burn but I have noticed that my PS2 is starting to have trouble reading these discs (DVD and other original CD media no problems). Is this because he burns them too fast? Do the CDr deteriorate with time? It worked fine at first and it's just recently that its started to play up. Anybody?

40x is to fast, I wouldn´t play anything in my console that was burned with 40x, it´s not good for the PS2, the best thing is to burn at 4x speed, using Verbatim CDRs, that´s not my opinion but from experts who are working with console technologies since the old Nintendo came out, so they know their stuff.
Btw burning with 4x speed takes you about 5-7 mins

4x takes about 16 minutes! But like larrson said, its the best and safest method for burning games!

16 minutes ?? Cannot be, I´m using Fireburner to burn .bin files, it´s the best programs for this kind of images, and it takes max. 8 mins

If you have a good burner there shouldn't be any problem burning your cds at max speed. but as many prefer have patience and burn at slowest.
