Chip techniques

I've always been a big fan of the chip, I always think its far more skillful than any other shot, cos rather than hit and hope like volleys and long shots it shows a bit of thought... In Pro Evo 4 I used to think I was something of a chipping Jedi, in Pro Evo 5 however its a different story...

First up I seem to get totally different results on chips with L1. Sometimes I get a huge arching lob (which is usually what I want) but most of the time I get something that is low and and floaty (more akin to the R1 chip in Pro Evo 4). Infact I cant seem to see the point in the R1 chip anymore as it seems to do the same thing as my L1 chip... So what am I doing wrong people?

Two notes: 1. I play the Xbox version if anyone thinks that makes a difference, although I doubt it.
2. The way I chip with L1 is the same way I chip with R1 i.e. Shoot and then tap the button while the gauge is displayed.

Cheers for any help. I used to love chip shots, but now they have sadly left my game...

I hardley ever use the l1 chip because I like to get close in before I chip so I use r1 to do this right i put my power all the way up now because the chip shot has been slightley changed. The ball tends to curl in the air insted of just going straigt like on pes4 so getting the angle right to score from is important.

I beg your pardon?
You could chip for fun in PES4 but not 5.
If you look at the amount of goals scored in say three months in any league in real life, you'd probably only see a few chips, so that is why it's hard to do now, another step towards realism.
You aren't doing anything wrong with your button input, it probably just depends on the player and the situation. Say if he has to stretch for it, it'll be low because his body won't create the right leverage, but if it's in his feet it will be easier for him to get the right contact, and should produce a better strike. and so forth

You aren't supposed to be able to do whatever you want every time in PES, for that you need FIFA probably, all you can do is practise all the moves and shots etc and hope they come off in the big game.
Remember, you are the computers bitch. It dictates, not you.

The L1 chip is all about how fast you approach the ball.

The faster you approach the ball, say if you are sprinting, the ball will go low and hard. If you are dead still the ball will go high and floaty.

The first chip here is at sprinting pace, player keeps it low and quite hard. The second chip is at a slightly slower running pace, so the ball goes slightly higher and slightly slower.
I know everyone already knows this, but i have these vids anyway.
(both 5 star btw)

ps. the second one is class cos it comes of both crossbar, then off the post. Ultimate placement.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
This is what I meant, but couldn't explain it as well.

There's two ways to chip with L1. The first one is pushing L1 before you push square. The other is pushing square and then L1. Voilà, Two totally different chips. Try them out. I tend to go for the later but it tends to take more time to do...

No probs, chips are very much hit and miss, especially with L1. sometimes they just float into goalies hands, sometimes they will rocket out of the stadium. Have scored probably about 10 like these in the whole time i've played PES5. And thats from about 100 attempts. Not including all that just get blocked by defenders.

It's mostly luck.

I tend to use L1-then shoot for chips from a long way out, say the keeper is off his line and I try something audacious. Sometimes comes off and is well worth it when it does! Like that Beckham goal for England a while back. I use R1 when clsoe on the keeper, but you need to get the guage up a long way to beat the keeper using R1 in my experience.

In pro ev4 there was a way of doing a little fake before chipping (not using x as a cancel) think it was square sqaure ri. Your man would just hesitate, the goalie would commit and you could dink it over him. Any idea how to do this in ProVo5?

Think that was just the game adjusting it's animation so that the chip looked more realistic, don't think it was a move or anything. I'm pretty sure of that. Though could be wrong.

r2 dose the controlled shot but if you hold r2 just before you conect with the ball timing is important you will do a slight feint before you hit it.

yeh, again. thats the computer changing the shot animation so it looks as if he's doing the placed shot, rather than the player winding up a power blast and it floating off with curl. Though it could be kinda used as a move to trick people. I doubt the cpu gets tricked by it, but maybe against a human player who thinks you're gonna blast it straight down the left side of the goal so he comes sliding in to where the ball would be travelling to block the shot, but because you;ve pressed R2 just at the last second your player shifts his body and bends it into the top right hand corner. But who's gonna be thinking like that?

In PES4 it was too easy, but in PES5 it's hard, but that's good. The problem is that keepers can defy gravity - they're about to dive one way the suddenly change direction.

In real life, I'm a chipping master.

With good balances and quick reflexes you can change direction very quickly.
