I've worked out how to take a free-kick like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Did you watch that Manchester United match against Portsmouth? When David James got pied by Mr Ronaldo's free kick? He took it and there was absolutely no curl at all. A straight beauty into the net, right over the wall.
Ive bought that fantasy into Pro Evolution 2008.
The purpose of this is to take free-kicks from not too far out and still score. Plus it looks just like his trademark free-kick.
I've edited my Ronaldo to have a free kick style of 10 (Juninho has this by default). It also works with David Beckhams free kick style. Try Pirlo's if you wish. Effectively, any freekick will work as long as you can get the ball over the wall.
When lining up to take the free-kick, you have several curling options. You could either hold left or right on the d-pad. Or you could press and hold R1 and L1 (RT and LT).
To 'curl' a free kick like Ronaldo (which essentially a straight shot into the net) take your player and aim between the last two men in the wall. Now i was standing about 26-27 metres out. Imagine the pitch was cut into two down the middle, from middle of the goal to the other goal at the other side. I was standing on the left side and aiming to the top left corner of the goal. The goalkeeper will be standing on the right side and the wall will be covering the left side of the goal.
If you are still with me, to take the shot, press your shoot button to approximately half way of the bar. Now, when the animation of the player starts, hold L1 and also hold the right button on the d-pad. This will cause the shot to curl to the left but then curl to the right, effectively straightening out, and flow straight.
If you are a little closer to goal, also hold the x button at this time (for a soft shot).
This will help make the ball travel slower and give it time to straighten out. Remember to aim directly to the left hand side or post as if to shoot directly straight. Then go right a little bit to allow space from the post.
Try in training mode first to get the hang of it. I suggest changing to the long, vertical camera to see the full effect.
Here is a video I managed to upload:

Happy scoring and good luck. Hope this helps you.
