defending against through balls

ive started having trouble dealing with though balls. mainly wen i play against one person in particular. i thought it was the formations cin as he always goes inter which focuses down the centre and i had few men in the middle so i changed that but that doesnt seem the prob. it seems he passes it into a AMC or deep FW and constantly does one touch through balls which always seems to get through. even wen i can see it, and hold down the directional button to push the defender back , it seems wen the ball is released the defender automatically no mater wat i do, steps forward, allowin the ball to get thru leavin SC one on one, its so annoyin. if i try to push up wen its released to intercept instead about 1/3 times the defender misses the ball and goes thru leavin no chance of recovery. any tips?

There are 2 cases to examine:
Throughballs through the middle and through the sides
Through the middle, it's a question of having good CB's and a good covering midfiled. If he tries this one a lot, try using 2 DMF in front of your defence. I bet he's gonna have dificulties geting a through ball across 4 players (2 CB 2 DMF).
Also make sure your defence is not to spread across the field like this
--RB------CB----CB------LB---
That one will leave lots of space for through balls between the Side backs and CB.
If it's the sides you're worring about, that's a litle bit harder, as the trick is not to pressure the incoming oponent if you have someone on your back.
This last case is particularly dificult as SB with good Agression will try to close down the incoming oponent very oftenly. All you can do is to try to have at least as many players as the other guy in that part of the pitch, either by having SMF or 2 CMF spread through on each side...
Good Luck

You could try using the offside trap.
Or pull your defence line back so it's deeper and he won't have any space to get to past your defenders as it'll be too close to the keeper.
Keep at it. Super cancel can help too.
