Why is it that more often than not - my defenders will hoof the ball out for a corner (just missing an OG), when they could have clearly booted it out for a throw/open play??

I try pressing different buttons ([] & O), but both have the same effect. I know the 'if in doubt' rule, but one day, they're just gonna blast it into the net, which will probably result in me putting my foot thru my TV.

Any help is appreciated :)

I was Classic England the other day and my defender did a Cruyff turn before smashing it into the corner of his own net. I lost the game 1-0 so I was well happy.
I think if you hold R1 and press Circle it should clear it up field no matter what. But it's not ideal when you're making a last-ditch attempt to clear - you should be able to quickly tap one button and it's away from danger.
Try R1 and Circle though, it should work.
