I have decided to start a new thread, which I know is likely to incur the wrath of a few diehards, but hey! The problem is, I have views and questions on PES 2008 for the PS2, but all I can find are posts relating to sodding next gen consoles. So anyone who wants to talk about the PS2 version, feel free to write here!
My views - I have played this game since ISS and have enjoyed it pretty much every year. Except this one. Call me superficial but I enjoy the look of the game as well as the game play. The game play can always be improved I think everyone would agree, but limitations mean that we may have to wait a few years yet for the perfect footie game. My first impressions of the gameplay of PES 2008 are that it seems alright, notably like PES6 but maybe tweaked slightly. My main gripe, looking at the game OVERALL is that the editing 'suite' seems to have diminished from excellent to frustrating. Maybe I am going loopy but I can't seem to flick through 400 different haircuts like last time, I can't even seem to change the colour of certain players hair now either!! Now, whether you care for editing or not I think this is a massive blow for the look of the game. Especially as most of the faces on their now no longer resemble their real life counterparts (Ronaldinho? Defoe?). I myself am a spurs fan. I am glad that they are licensed as I never thought I'd see the day. However, being the saddo that I am, everything about them has to be right, from sleeves, to untucked shirts to boots to haircuts and facial hair! Now I can't do any of that. Why. I thought I will change the colour of Dawson's hair from Black (?) to brown. Can't do it. Why? The boots have gone. Why? I wanted to cheat and dive to win a penalty in a match, I can't. Why? I'm told all over the net and in the sales patter on the box that i can. It doesn't say I have to fork out £300 for a PS3 to do it though! Why disable some of these features but keep such crap as dog heads and penguin costumes? WHATS THE POINT!!! It doesn't add ANYTHING to the game at all.
I presume this will be the last release of PES for the PS2, what a shame they couldn't have treated us better and gone out with a bang. Made the best one ever, with an array of features to keep us happy and tempt us into buying the PS3. Well, I certainly won't be fooled into buying a PS3 just because they have, on purpose I believe, made this version a poor one. I love PES, I will always play it despite the gripes, I just wish they didn't treat customers such as myself with such disdain.
