I did a search but couldn't find anything on this which is strange as its one of the most anticipated xbox games ever...
Anyway, i've had the US version for a couple of weeks now...it's a pretty amazing game. For those who haven't heard of it, it's an RPG/adventure game from the people who bought us black and white. You go through the game growing older and depending on what you do you become good, evil or anywhere in between. Your character changes depending on what you do.
The game starts with you as a small child, the game is pretty linear at this point, you can run around your town talking to people, doing mini-quests such as finding a man cheating on his wife. An example here is you can either get the man to give you gold so you won't tell his wife, so you become a bit more evil. Or you can go running to his wife, tell her and then follow her to see her having a go at her husband for cheating, so you get good "points". I chose to bribe the man but I still went and told his wife hehe.
Anyway after doing some more quests the game really starts, bandits come to the village and burn everything, killing your father and kidnapping your sis and mother. You are rescued and taken to a place called Guild Of Hero's. Here you train into your teenage years and after a while you are let out into the world of Albion.
This is where the game really opens up. You get to do what you want basically (although it's still quite linear in the number of places to go, until further in the game that is..) . You start to build up a reputation and people will start worshipping you or fearing you as you grow older and do good or evil deeds. At first people kept calling me Chicken Chaser, I think it was because I kept kicking chickens around :\
In the first town I came to something funny, yet irritating occured. I spoke to a man and he said I was his daughters type (you get to marry and have sex etc in the game). I agreed to go meet his daughter but he said I needed a new haircut first, and gave me a picture of a certain type of haircut. Off I went to the barbers, got it done and then went back. He said I also needed a beard, she likes men with beards, so off I went again with a funny beard card to the barbers and got that. I went back to the man and he said I need one last thing, a mustauche, and he gave me a picture of a really weird looking one. As i left I saw him chuckling. Anyway I got it done which cost more money, and went back to him. He started laughing! He said he never had a daughter really, he just wanted to see me looking stupid!!! And he legged it! I knew I should of killed him when I first saw him!!
Anyway as the game goes on and you go looking for your sister and people who murdered your father, the game really opens up. You can buy houses, move in them with your wife, or rent them out to get more money. You can go into Taverns and do mini games such as table top golf with a coin and glasses for obsticles, or play blackjack for more cash (Theres plenty of different kinds of these games so far).
There are also shops where you can buy food and shops where you can buy weapons, and as the game goes on you can get a Steal expression so you can steal things from shops and people. And if you get the thief expression you can pick locks. So if you want, break into a shop at night, nick all his stock and then sell it back to him for money the next morning. Or you could just kill the shopkeeper, buy the shop and then rent it out and you get items cheaper then. It's really up to you.
The battles are in real time, you get different weapons, that do more damage and also different kinds of magic. I got a large sword when I was young, I got into a fight and I found I could hardly lift it, so had to sell it. You also get scars from fights too which changes the way you look.
I haven't played it for a few days now but i'm not that far through I dont think. You can complete the game in about 10 hours so i've heard if you just do the main quests. But to be honest, there's that much to do that you simply forget about them so the game can last ages like it has done for me. I'm really evil now, got horns, glowing red eyes, flies around me and people fear me everywhere I go
It really is a great game, sorry for the longggg post but you can write so much about this game (see the 8 page review on ign). Here's a few screens anyway:
