hi peeps
im kinda new to all this message board thingy n thought id use my first post to give a little review of fifa 2005, having just played a copy with a few of my mates (and its good news for us pes fans)
When starting up, fifa has been given a complete make-over, the menu systems are alot more tidier than the previous versions and once again it contains some rather decent music while you browse through all the different option screens. fifa now contains a new edit mode and....wait for it....a "fifa shop" (thats sounds familiar to something else hmmmmmm
) this works in the same way as it does in pes, allowing you to gain ulockables by completing certain goals in the game.
Everyone knows how deep the game goes, 18 nations with hundreds of teams n thousands of players. Personally, ive always found this as more of a negative than a plus, unless your a die hard blackpool or yeovil fan theres no real purpose to have so many teams in there, although it is nice to have the teams in there when playing a career mode.
Now down to the graphics. Personally, me and my mates where rather suprised at how inconsistant the graphics are. Firstly, the stadiums look magnificant, you can instantly tell alot of work went into improving the stadiums. The pitches are also improved, they actually look green rather than the oozy colour that looked terrible in fifa 2004. Then it goes down hill, QUICKLY. The players faces look absolutely terrible! We were in stitches when we seen Vieira and several other players, i wont even mention what rooney looks like. You get a sense that they've tried to hard in creating realism in the game, and its all gone, well, "tits up". I've read alot of people like fifa because of the realism, but they'll find that in the 2005 version its really made a step back than one step forward. Its been a problem with fifa for along time now, everything just seems dis-proportioned eg. the palyers look rather large compared 2 the size of the pitch.
For alot of people though its the gameplay, and fifa has improved, but only to a small degree. It does play alot smoother, passes feel more fluid and you can tell that certain parts of the gameplay have been influenced by pes. Ive always found a few problems with fifa that keep coming up and they also appear in 2005. The shooting is....well...you cant even explain how bad the shooting is. You can literally score from any part of the pitch, all you have to do is hit it as hard as you can n 9/10 times ill find it will fly into the corner of the net, with the keeper doing some radiculous dive to try and save it. The ball doesnt move right either. The speed at which it moves would take the head off any person, it moves far too quick when shooting or crossing, and then when it reaches a player, it slows back down again. One nice touch is the "first touch" system that they have introduced. Now i have no idea what the xbox or pc version will b like in executing one, but the ps2 version is rather difficult to grasp at first but when done does add a class touch to the game. As an attacker, its great but defending them is a pain, you struggle to get a tackle in whenever anyone uses it and just takes that fun edge out of the game slightly.
Now im not a die hard pro evo fan n i dont hate any of the fifa series, i happen to buy both every year, but i do prefer pro evo to this game. Yes, fifa is a fun game and, overall, a bigger improvement on last years installment which will please alot of fifa fans, but you just feel that it hasnt improved the areas it needs the most. Now this is only my and my mates opinion on this game and we know others will feel different and hopefully in about an hour or so ill have a review of pro evo 4 for you all. If you wanna no any more details feel free to ask and ill answer any you have
