I cannot figure out the R3 button, when i do press it and release a player and then hit pass often times it wont pass to the guy iv released but another player nearby,
Also when on attack i am extremely confused what exactly is the right strategy to use, is it the one-two pass and thats it given the new AI who makes runs anyway or should i use the R3 extensively? Uusally i just confuse myself with so many options and just make a mess of it.
Also on the shoot, is there a finesse shot?

On defense, i am even worse as I use the X button and R1 extensively but usually either miss the player completely or concede a soft foul.
When i jockey instead using R2, I usually end up leaving too much space for the attacker.

Been trying to practise hard, but unable to iron these out. Sorry if the questions are basic, first year i am back to PES since 08.

Hey guys,
Could anyone please help me here, I am very lost especially on defense, it seems that all my players run away from the ball, i am probably not understanding the change player option well?

I have been out of the PES loop since 2008 so any help would be fantastic.

You can change player with both L1 and the right analog stick now.

Defending takes a while to master. Ease off on the sprint button. There's no need to dive into challenges with it. Fair enough when you're chasing a player, but don't sprint towards opponents that are coming towards you with your defenders.

Finesse shot is R2 whilst pressing the shoot button, I think. :)

Don't switch, the AI is playing defense correctly, you just have to assist by playing your position and clogging the passing lanes.

So when im defending, i should just not bother with the L1 button and just defend with the guy the AI assigns to me?
Is there a way i can make this completely manual as I am just not used to that.


On the offence, question still stands, how do i correctly chose the direction of the person i want to respond to my R3 command, it seems very arbitrary both when i hit the R3 and whats worse is after i chose this player and hit the pass button sometimes itll go to a completely different player in the vicinity?
What am i doing wrong?

I think you can make it manual on the controller select screen. Back on PS2, I think you had to hit L1 or R1, depending on how little/much assistance you wanted. Not sure if it's the same now.

And I would still advise you to control whoever you feel is best, just don't over-commit.
