Help!!PS2 Froze up.....!!

I was playing my chipped PS2 with my mate and all of a sudden the console stopped responding to the joypad! We rebooted the machine with an original PS2 game and we could not get past the opening screen 'cos the console did not respond to the keypad.
Has this happened to anyone b4? If so can you please tell me how you resolved this problem.
The console seems to be working fine, it just does not seem to respond to any of the buttons on the joypad therefore we cant get past the openening screen on any game. We even tried a new pad to no avail. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!

I had a PS1 and the Memory Card was removed while the console was still switched on.

That seemed to stop the console responding to the joypad. It scared me at the time, but the machine did work once that memory card was removed.

I had to get a new card, but at least they cost a lot less for a PS1.

Try taking out any memory cards you have fitted to the console, then re-boot.

I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.

The joypads work fine, besides i dont think both pads would just pack up all of a sudden. The machine seems to work fine with all games but it wont respond to the pad hence i can't get past the intro screens.

lol.. I have heard that ppl get there ps2 chipped and it flippin don't work after a while..and if his ps2 is indeed bust he won't be able to get a new one on the guarentee cos when u mess with anything in your ps2 it voids it....I would much rather spend £40 on a brand new copy of pes3 than £5 on a chipped copied, copy of pes3 with scanned labels and shit. lol..Its p[iss easy to chip an xbox,..there is just a slot that u plug the chip into, where as with ps2 u haved to solder it in

No Giggsy, you really don´t know anything about chipping. The only dangerous chip is the Magic one, but I don´t think that anyone nowadays would buy a Magic chip. If you chip your console yourself, or a friend without any soldering experience does it for you then don´t blame the chip but your own stupidity.
And I still haven´t heard any arguments from you why chipping could be dangerous. Oh wait...you said you´ve heard SOMEwhere that SOMEone has damaged his console SOMEhow, well, I guess that´s a Giggsy argument then...

Alawode, maybe the controller-ports are damaged if the controllers stopped to work suddenly.

c'mon lars don't try and turn everything into an argument I never claimed to know much about chipping but i do know a few ppl who have had bad experiances with it (mainly with psone) but i would still never chip as it would void the guantee and if it ever did broke i would have to fork out for a new one. All i know is i heard ppl say certain bad things so i would rather not chip and be safe than risk anything..i don't care wot u say cos these are mates that have told me this and i tend to trust and belive my mates which is why i'm not gonna do it..plus its illegal

You lose your warranty when you chip your console, that´s all . It´s neither more difficult nor easier to repair, you just can´t bring it back to Sony and get a new one. You only get a warranty from the shop which chips your console, but this should be enough. Normally consoles don´t stop to work during the warranty-periods that´s why the warranty is quite useless for 99 % of the users

nah..u misunderstand Lars, his controller didn't stop working cos of chipping..i meant his ps2 may have frozen cos of it...as he first said. Take the whole PES/WE series as an example. Without a chip people in England wouldn´t be able to play the WE series, which is far better than the European series.

Yeah i see, importing games is ok (WE7) and playing em..Its just when u get pes3 for example and burn it onto another disk and selling it thats illeagal i think :confused

Chips Can Cause Problems With The Ps2 Bios If They Are Fitted To A Version Of The Ps2 That Is Not Compatible With Them... So Yes There Is A Danger And Plus U Can Forget Warranties With Sony Coz They Go Out The Window Too.... I Wouldnt Get My Ps2 Chipped... The Only Thing I Would Do Is Get The Flip Lip Modification Or The Slide Card And Swap Discs As These Seem Better Solutions To Playing Patched Ps2 Games...
