I didn't know that, Nice one I used to always hold the direction for it to curl.

That does'nt work, my finger never let's go of the :R1: button, and i hardly ever see the ball curl, maybe once or twice in a match, but if it does its only a slight curl.....

I believe curling works by holding the directional buttons as the power bar goes up on the shooting. Also you may want to note that hitting :R1: while shooting should make it go into a low lob.

:R1: when pressed while taking a freekick keeps the ball low and is better for longer shots.
:R2: when pressed while taking a freekick makes the ball come down faster and is better for when your closer or want to put a lot of curl on a shot.

To curl the ball it's like original says and you use the directional buttons. Left and right for freekicks and up and down from a shot when in play.

However I think curl is applied after your shot has been taken and how much curl you can put on is determined by a) the players stat for curl, b) what kind of shot it is and c) how quickly you press the direction button in the direction you want to curl the ball after you have taken the shot.
So keep pressing left and right for freekicks or up and down for shots in play after your shot other wise it will go striaght.

Also if you hold down the direction buton that is either towards or away from goal when you are shooting also determines the flight of the ball.
Say if you pressed forwards towards the goal before a shot, the ball will go harder and stay lower but its not advised for volleys as usually the ball rolls to the keeper.... unless you press forward a lot and the ball is hit into the ground and may bounce over him or just in the net.

I have only ever shot once like that and it was accidental from about 25 yard so the defender cleared it. So its hard to press forward enough before you have to take the shot.

the R1 is for a low shot or cross and the R2 is for high shot or cross. to actually curve the ball or add spin to it, its just as easy as pressing the direction button to left or right

note* left footed players have a right curve and right footed have a left bend but somehow R. Carlos can bend it both ways :D

I don't think curling can be manually controlled, it's more a function of the type of shot. A slightly softer shot will allow more curling then a pile-driver. Similar to free-kicks.

At least somebody smart.:p

You are so right Celline, the curling is a natural fact and we cannot "edit" it.
It all depends in the kind of shot as Cellini says , such the side of the foot you hitting the ball with, how you recieve the ball, speed, bouncing,if the player is running, walking,(Obviously the less the speed of the player the much of curling of the shot!!) that is maybe why we can "only" give curling in the free kicks!!

This is my "theory"!
I find that this "curling" is so similar to the reality, so the best "curling" for a shot is by hitting the ball with the best leg with the internal side of the foot and not facing straight the goal!

I don't think you can control curl in open play; the ammount of curl is determined by your positioning on the ball when you hit it and the players curling stat

I agree. You cant curl the ball in open play. Its all determined by players stats, and the situation the player is in, eg how the ball is struck and with which foot.
