How were you converted to PES?

Christmas 2001
I got my PS2, and bought the latest PS2 magazine. On the disc there was FIFA 2002 and what's this... Pro Evolution Soccer? Oh that'll be crap fifas the best footie game. I played a 5 min demo of FIFA and was VERY unsatisfied. I thought "HA lets try this little game....Errrm Pro Evolution haha what a silly name... which I've never heard of" it was that moment i realised something.... A turning point in my life.... Pro Evolution Soccer was the best football game around. More challenging than FIFA but it made you want to work at it and practice! The demo gave you 5 teams and a 5 minute half which we had 2 "restart game" when the time was up so we could play again without going 2 the demo menu. I never looked back to FIFA..... I did try and give it a chance but NO WAY! I played that demo for a solid 6 months cos I had no money 2 buy the game (sad I know - i was still at school).

SUMMER 97 (I think)
I do remember when my younger cousins got their N64, I had 2 test it for them before they got it.... It had International Superstar Soccer 64 on it. I thought that was amazing! But because all I had was a megadrive I could only play FIFA 97 or FIFA 99 on my PC (probably the best fifas) until i played sega worldwide soccer on my dreamcast which was..ok i guess.

What about you guys?

I was going to get the newest version of fifa and uh the assistant the ebgames store was stacking some copies of W11,i asked to see the cover and i fell in love.I took it home and introduced it to my ps2 and controller. They clicked naturally and nights have never been the same since. ;)

I did play the PSX version but it has 2 be said (no disrespect) that the N64 version was far superior. I don't want 2 knock your memories as the PSX version was class too

The last Fifa I played was the '02 PC version then I stopped playing football games for a VERY long time until "This is Football 2003" came out, I played very little of it cuz it was worst than Fifa, later broke my PS2.....Then WE7:Int. came out, two months after it released I brought a new PS2 just for it, I play this game everyday. I've no regret switching from "This is Football" and it'll stay this way forever!!!!!!!

Super 14 Champions 2006
i was hooked on Fifa 2000 and a mate (elfinke) said "that's shit" and showed me PES2.. i then proceeded to live at his place for a while... well until he went back to uni.. so i decided to buy a PS2 just for PES and have never looked back..

it was weird for me because i had to convert myself to actually liking football, after 11 straight years of NBA and NFL, before I started playing ISS/PES. That was achieved thanks to good old sky sports.
I had never played a football (soccer) video game before untill I played my friend at ISSPE1 on the PSX. And from there on it pretty much continued the same. I first played FIFA after I had played ISS but wasn't really impressed with the standard of gameplay although the presentaion, even on the PSX, was quite impressive.

Knew FIFA games were crap from my N64 experiences (ISS98 was THE best football game), so I bought the alternative when I got my PS2.

So, I was never actually converted to PES. I've always been with PES. :)

i had ISS 98 on the N64 and thought it was great. Played that for ages, then got a ps2 and went back to playing Fifa. After Fifa2003 i got bored of it so i went on soccergaming.com and saw loads of hype about PES3. I clicked on one of the sites & it had some screens from WE7. It looked brilliant, and all the features in the game looked cool aswell. So i went down and bought it on the day of release.
Looked for some hints on the net and found this site.

i started off on sensible soccer on the amiga. then i got a sness and had ISS. net i moved on to the 64 and had ISS 64, Iss 98, ISS 2000. then i got tired of my n64 and started playing on my pc more which only really gave me the option of FIFA 2001. but then the ps2 rescued me with pro evo 1. then i went onto pro evo 2, WE6FE, WE7, pro Evo3, we7i, and soon we8

I was a fan of FIFA origionally when there was no opposition, i owned Fifa 97 (PC) 1999 (was a classic) 2000 and 2001.

But my friend got me onto playing PES when i played it at his home (7RONALDO7) the gameplay was superb and i hadnt bought a football game in ages because then i still only owned a ps1! but i bought a ps2 and PES2 and now i own an xbox aswell!

not to be taken seriously
I'd played iss on ps1, I had a game called goal storm, I think that was konami as well, but at that time I just used to get every footy game going. Then when I got my ps2, I got FIFA played that alot, never fully satisfied, my PS2 broke (first batch), when I took it back to Virgin fifa was stuck in it, but they didn't have anymore left so I got ISS instead, and the rest is history. I'd say I've played alot of the iss games even had it on snes, but I stopped playing other footy games when I got iss on ps2.

My PS had broke, so i went out to buy a new one. I thought I'd treat myself to a game aswel. I thought that I'd buy a football game! I had FIFA already, so obviously wanted something different. It came down to a toss up of two games...Ronaldo Football something or other, and ISS Pro Evolution.
In the end I chose the ISS and as soon as I got home I knew i'd made the right choice!
I threw out FIFA, and I've never looked back, buying every version of the series since!

i had a sega mega drive i had this game international superstar soccer, which was good but was that a konami game? don't remember, anyways when i go to alexandria in the summer i used to play with it cause i don't take my computer with me that was about 6 years ago, luckily enough i got the game on ps1 isspro and played it using an emulator on the pc that was about 3 years ago i think that's when i used to play on a regular basis i have all fifas from 95 till 2004 and all world cups and euros in between i didn't buy the euro 2004 though, cause at a time you know that enough is enough and it's not ok being screwed over by a company that doesnt care about what the customers want

I rented out PES1 from Blockbuster, after reading about it in a magazine, saying "Is this a new game that rivals Fifa?" I never even looked at Fifa ever!!!
