Increase team rating? Signing/selling players

Is there anything I can do to increase my created team's rating? Without having to spend 10 seasons of winning every cup available?

Has anyone also noticed that after 6 or 7 seasons, players become very difficult to sell? I transfer listed Rooney (Aged 30) but no one bid for him in 2 seasons. Consiquently I releases him!

This is quite a big problem! Hours are spent increasing your teams rating only to find that even when you're rated No1 that you still can't sign the likes of Roberto Carlos or Totti etc.

You just have to win things. If you start as a crappy team in the lower division then its easier cause there is that league title and the cup, if you win the cup then your in the europa league next season which will also increase your team rating. But if you don't wanna do that then i suggest being Barca, Real madrid, Inter or Liverpool. They are high up in the rankings anyway.

Also i've been top ranked and i can sign the best players, but when you get no.1 rank players like messi and aguero and nearly 30 anyway.
