Just Cause

...has worn the t-shirt!
In Just Cause, you take on the role of the flamboyant Rico Rodriguez - an undercover CIA operative specialising in regime change - as he tries to overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. This rogue South American island is suspected of stockpiling WMDs and it's your job to negate the threat to world peace. It could be to your advantage that this tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignment however you want: play the island's factions off against one another; incite a rebellion among the masses; or build alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. Explore the game's world of 1,225 square miles of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages with a variety of air, land and sea craft.

The size
Just Cause- 390 square miles

San Andreas- 17 square miles (got it off wikipedia)

Saint's Row- 10 square miles

Oblivion was either 16 or 19 square miles big

I'm guessing the xbox 360 as it does say media.xbox360.gamespy.com in the link ;)

Looks pretty good and 390 square miles is huge!! Over 20 times bigger than San Andreas, wow.

If we make the playing area huge it must be good! Sounds rather uninspiring tbh

Daggerfall is the largest Elder Scrolls game to date, featuring a game world estimated as being about 160,000 square miles — roughly twice the size of Great Britain — with over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore

Having played Daggerfall (its old) extensiely, every single game just fails in comparison when it comes to the size of the game world. That being said, Oblivion is the same sort of size as Morrowind (or bigger) but has less cities etc. so feels much smaller.

Not sure why but the two pictures shown don't impress me graphically - particularly the second. The first might just need to be taken from a point much closer to the water.

i read a review in a mag about this game they played the demo and said after 5 mins flying in a plane to reach the other side of the land they gave up because they had only managed to fly by one state in the game i think theres something like 36 states! This game is huge

Its goin to be on the PC, Xbox 360, PS2 and Xbox.

I was disappointed with Morrowind and Oblivion for being so much smaller despite the fact they are a world apart from Daggerfall in terms of graphics and stability. I swear Daggerfall must be the worst game in history for random errors and crashes. Understandable considering the size of the game though.

saw this a while back for the xbox but have not been keeping up with the new releases for xbox, so this has been transferred to the 360 this will no doubt be a good game.

I've been waiting for this game for a few months now. It looks the absolute dogs. A nice little touch is that you can drive off cliffs on bikes then either parachute (and the parachute fires you up in the air first as it should) or freefall to your destination. There was a demo video floating about somehwere I will see if I can find it.

390 square miles? Bloody hell!

To be honest, that's too big. I would get pissed off spending half my game-time travelling.

That dosen't look like my type of game, the flips and stunts ect. Look un-realistic. If it turns out like that by the release day. I will not be buying that.

I'd rather a game was playable than realistic anyday.

Wow

Yeh i made a post like this in my thread Scarface, the game looks good and it is bigger than Saints Row and San Andreas (Saints Row is very detailed and online for up to 16 people on the map!) Just Cause looks like its a bit OTT, only becuase with all the different actions and features it has the delevopers are coming up with a lot of bugs and are trying to fix them, it is a must buy still!

Scarface - Out 1/9/2006 - Buy Buy Buy It!

I feel the same. I got board of San Andreas when you had to start driving for 20 mins at a time.

But does it still look exactly like Vice City?

Yeh in a way...but they have added cool things like drug ownership and banking 'real' and 'fake' money. The drug ownership is well cool, have read of this:

The thing is with Just Cause about the size is that it may be huge compared to San Andreas and Saints Row but from the screenshots and videos i've seen 3/4 of the game looks like mountain and wood, now if the gameplay is in those areas more than the urban city areas it will get a bit repetitive, Saints Row as you mentioned is the smallest but the whole map is different and is one city. (Still looks a good game but will they solve the bugs?)
