Konami and their new offside rule

Now, I know the offside rule is misunderstood by many people but im sure we all have a better understanding of it than Konami.

I play a gorgeous ball over the defense to my striker. However, at the time the ball is played, one striker is onside and the other is offside. The offside rule is simple in this context:

If the offside player does not interfere with play then the linesman should not flag for offside. However, Konami make this rule "if you play a ball into the opponents half and one player is offside, even though you did not pass the ball to him, we will flag him for offside".

Nonsensical.

It's not quite that bad - they do seem to be aware of active / passive offside, because sometimes you'll see that thing that happens a lot in real life, an offside player standing still while an onside player runs from deep to attack the ball. The problem is that the detection of who's supposed to be on the ball at any given time is really poor, so sometimes the cpu will assume the offside player is active when he's not.

It's the same issue that caused the terrible cursor switching pre-patch (and it's still very poor), and which sometimes leads to ridiculous calls on fouls and players running away from loose balls. I reckon it's a consequence of the new freedom of passing and movement: there are more different "places" on the pitch that players and the ball can be, if you know what I mean, and the AI struggles to keep up with that.

Konami will be working on this, and I think that if one of these problems is fixed in PES2012 then they all will be, because they come from the same root. Don't be surprised if none of them are fixed though...

i had a goal dissallowed that was unbelievable one of my defenders arm was about 7 inches infront of the last man even though he didnt touch the ball it was classed as a pass because it deflected off their player its soo annoying and the cheek of it about 5 mins later their goalkeeper saved the ball about 2 meters over the line which should be a red card and a freekick but yet he magically walks back to the penalty spot and kicks it out!!! grrrr

I know what's your complaint but I have to defend this bevahiour of the game a little bit and say it's not 100% glitched like that the passive offside-man ALWAYS leaves the ref blow the whistle. You will see it in 2on2s especially.
The problem with that happening is that the AI automatically has the passive offside player move towards the free ball which the non-offside-receiver is supposed to get. You can reconstruct this behaviour very easily: When you play a pass to the offside-man, try to use Super-Cancel (R1+R2/RT) with the player going to receive the ball and move away from the ball while keeping SupCancel pressed. You will see that the ref won't blow as long as you don't run towards the ball/touch it. That way a defender of the other team will just go and get it. When this defender is controlling the ball or passing, the whole offside situation dissolves and you are free again to attack for possession. In a 2on2 I often had it with a mate the that I deliberately offside with my controlled player to create confusion and space for another striker to come through the gaps I created. When he passed to the man in offside, I usually run back onside away from the ball with SuperCancel and have my mate receive the ball with the onside free striker. Works like a charm sometimes...

I dont think it is too much of a glitch as i have seen it been given offside in some real life matches.
I guess its all down to interpretation.

However the one flaw i have found is offside from a set piece... WTF??? How can a player be automatically position offside before a set piece has been taken?

The problem is that the players ALWAYS stand offside.

Exactly. The AI really needs brushing up. And also, when you are flagged offside, the time it takes for the referee to blow the whistle is enough for Gareth Bale to have scored his hat-trick against inter milan!

what gets me is when you play the ball square to a player standing infront of the goal and you get offside, do they not understand that for the player to be offside the ball has to go forward regardless of where the player is standing etc.
