Lag?!~

I will probably be told off or be told that this has been mentioned a million times b4, but I really do want to spill this out.

Was playing some online PES5 just now, and I read somewhere that either player's PC host each halves of the match. When I got to the 2nd half, there were so much lag(as my PC was hosting the 1st half), that all my players and responses are like 2 sec delayed... which resulted in me letting one of their players thru to score a clean goal and won the game... that was really annoying... i just feel so crap!!!

Yes, lag is bad.
Sometimes is due to a slow connection, sometimes other people are using the connection for downloading stuff without the player knowing and it can be caused depending on the location of the two players too.

If you play someone in your town/city, the lag could well be much less.

NO he's right. Just go for the green arrows. I've played a few games on the ps2 without anylag at all.

People using their PS2 through there PCs need to turn of things like windows auto update, things like this download periodically without the user knowing, so you might think that your not downloading but quite possibly you are. Plus things like shareazza dont always disconnect because you have quit the program, check your firewall or do a netstat to see what is still connected.

I played it yesterday online for the first time and they was no lag at all on any of my matches. I played 7 games and i've only got a 500k broadband connection.

"Green" ping does not guarantee anything! I have played countless of times with green ping and I still have annoying moments. For instance, last night I was totally trashed 0-6 with my last game las night(it was 2 am). I played Barcelona and he played Nigeria!! Although one half seemed ok, I had some odd troubles with defending and 2nd half having "usual" small lag. When I tried to ask, whether he had any lag, he simply did not understand at all what I was saying. Did he have a great gameplay response or simply did not understand the term is not really clear.
I know that playing all the way from Finland, but sometimes it seems that the game is just a bit off that it takes enjoyment out of game. It is not really an even experience as sometimes you can enjoy "lag" game and sometimes it is simply frustrating. Anyone w similar experience?

Yes, I play with a 2Mb connection and have played Red (also from PES Insight). He has a 4MB connection and when we connect we both have green arrows but our games are pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to lag.

Red's theory is that we still get lag because the servers are just not up to the job (500 hundred players sometimes online consecutively sucking up bandwidth).

So sometimes lag is not the fault of the user having a PC running - the blame may lie with Konami. For the time being we all have to take pot luck and live with it.

I heard that it's much better to reset the pc before connecting to play online so these p2p programs cannot have any residual effects. This method seemed to work well for me with pes4 online.

It is the fault of Konami, had they given more thought about the legue setup, they would have given each division access to a specified server, rather than everybody cramming on to server one in order to get a game.

Due to the 2 beatings given to me by Tshill7 I had a bit of a sesh last night in order to get the practice, remarkably, or maybe not so, the lag issue almost dissapered after 1:30am and after my 3 x ping test (going in and out of the room to ensure the ping stays green (often not the case)) everytime.

The one time I got lag, and it was bad, was when I played a guy tagged HAZ, top 200, we pinged green after ping test, so I challanged him, he was dodgey from the start, I chose Liverpool as I always do unless the host chooses them, he chose Brazil, so I changed to England, he then changed again to a club team, so I went back to Liverpool naturally, he then waited until it was the last few seconds and switched back to Brazil, seeing what was happening I tried to change back to England but ended up with some club team LOI not sure who they were but obviously extremely lower skilled than the Brazillians. But to cut the story short I beat him 1-0 and the best of it was that he called me lucky, do not agree simply because I played a better tatical game than he, playing 5 at the back to combat his 4 attackers, a tight midfield 3 and two up front. so it was not all defense, and when I got the ball I did my best to keep it, obviously frustrating him because 15mins in to the game and having been on top the lag kicked big time, now I am not saying that he manufactured it, even if I am implying it, but that was the only time during the early morning hours.

This will quit a lot of the programs, but some programs reconnect on restart, shareazza does, even if you have not opened it, which is not nice, things like windows auto update, quicktime, real player, AVG to name but a few all open ports to listen for software updates, and depending how your setup will start downloading automatically. using something like enditall will end all process not required to be running this might help, or removing autodownlaod on any of these programs, obviously the bigger issue is the server congestion, maybe we, the PESINSIGHT lot, should all use server 3 when logging on, if nobody is on moving to a more crowded lobby.

Well played red. He sounds like a sad player with that team-picking shenanigens. I should be online in a couple of weeks and will probably play people from the forums rather than the random noobs going brazil or madrid all the time.

its not konami's fault, because konami aren't going to put vasts amount of money into server capabilites for free. Xbox live has its own servers so in turn it costs konami nothing... konami wouldn't buy good servers for free. konami have done a good enough job by allowing PS2 owners to play for no charge... its like complaining at somthing that was given to you for free

I am not complaining, or at least I did not intend to, all I meant was with the current structure every body gets crammed into server 1, leaving the other servers virtually free, this is not good distribution, had they for example, said server 1 is for division 1 players only server 2 for division 2 players only and so on and so on, it would mean not only would the distribution be several 100 times better but the league concept would also be maintained. With promotion you would not only be entering a new server but playing against and meeting new people, would have added something to it for me, and the cost would be minimal as it is all about account management which they do every monday morning anyway.

Thanks Zygalski, I said I was not lucky in my post but I guess I was a little, if Adriano had had a shot he would have probably scored, my keepers never seem to be able to cope with them.

That guy sounds like a right c0ck with his picking team thnigs. what a loser, just pick Brasil and be done with it, why pretend?

I like playing PESInsighters as we all know the score. If someone picks a lower skilled team like Sweden I will do the same, say Norway. It makes it so much more interesting....and varied....

I agree with the attitude of backdoor, about using a team that are on about certain skill level as your opponent... btw, is there somewhere on this forum here to see other pesinsighter's PES5 online screen name???
