They're talking about their second season in the Game Mode, Master League.

A quick match (or Exhibition match) from the main menu has no impact on the Master League.

Try the Master League out (or Become a Legend for that matter), it's pretty fun.

And trust me, you'll know when you reach the second season. It's when you're out of games in the first and a new one starts :p

Assuming you ARE (it didn't sound like it) playing the mode, then the answer to your money question is that you get different amounts of money after a match depending on if you hit your sponsors objectives or not.

In the first season, most sponsor objectives are "Win the game" and a bonus objective for winning several games in a row. Later on, sponsors may have player, qualification or league based objectives.
