Hey, I'm a tad new around :confused: here so I apologize if this type of thread is discouraged .

I play at 3 stars and am having trouble scoring despite averaging around 60% possession in all my games.

I wonder if I'm not playing people in the right spot or if I'm using a bad formation. So any suggestions would be vastly appreciated.

I play with a 4-4-2 diamond formation. I don't use any strategies cause I don't really understand them. Here is my team...

GK: Buffon
LB: Roberto Carlos
CBT: Nesta
CBT: Cannavaro
RB: Thuran
DMF: Ballack
RMF: Figo
LMF: Rivaldo
OMF: Zidane
Left CF: Raul
Right CF: Shev

Bench:

Tudor
Samuel
Arce
Nedved
Davids
Okocha
Rapaic
Trezeguet
Di Vaio
Rustu

Any suggestions? Ballack seems to be a sore point for me in terms of turnovers...should I bench him for Davids?

I'd say by looking at your team you shouldn't be struggling too much. make a point in each game you play to try at least 5 different methods of attack. such as, down one wing and then the next, crosses into the box or up the middle - 1 2's in front of goal, long and short range kicks, swapping corner and FK takers, putting players in other positions etc etc, and you'll find a way you are comfortable with.

Failing that, drop to 2 *'s and bang a load of goals in, and then go back to 3 *'s and try whatever method was working.

Failing that still, accept the fact that you are not very good at cpu games and do somethings else ;)

I would let Davids and Nedved play more often. Davids at DMF and Nedved at DMF or SMF. Play those on better form arrows for better results.

I'd drop Raul and get someone like Henry. I'm not a fan of Raul or Trez.

There are a couple of threads on using Strategies so check them out. Set them on Manual and use ones like Counter Attack and Centre Attack or pick one of the side attacks and use as the chance arises.

thanks for the advice. Its funny cause the two positions you recommend changing are the two I was having the most trouble with (Balack and Raul). Raul hasn't done anything for me and seems to miss the net more often than not.

I'm gonna go read the threads on strategies since I don't know anything about them.

Thanks again! :)

I only have Roberto Carlos and Rustu out of those players in my team, and playing 4 stars. I have focused on fast and dribbler players. And with the right formation, you can score with whoever you have in your team. I never have a stable 11, they change depending on their form arrows. I play 3-4-3 with 2 defensive and 2 offensive midfielders. those 2 offensive mids with the help of 3 attackers, create enough traffic in the front. And just be careful in the back ofcourse with 3 defensemen. Works out for me, also set to counter attack quickplay setting. I believe it helps my forwards to position themselves to pick quick dumps when i take over possession in my half.

all i can recommend is tweak the individual attack settings

just keep playing on 3*, like i have, i was really struggling to get anything other than 1-1's and 0-0's but now i find that im stringing wins together

eventually your players and style of play will click and you'll start banging in goals

The squad is excellent, your possession is good, so as you say it's breaking down the opposition and scoring that's the problem.

If your getting in shots on target, but scoring less than say 1 in 3, I'd say practice shooting. Try to get the keeper off his line by getting behind the last defender, keep the power down, and aim low.

If your scoring a decent proportion, but just not creating enough opportunities:

you might be better looking trying to get 2 of your players against 1 defender (an attacking full-back, or DMF can often make the 'extra' man);

try to work it so you can lay off the final ball for a team mate to hit a shot first-time;

refine your 1-2's (hit the return before the first pass is recieved) to get in 1-on-1 against their goalkeeper (check beginners training, under the Training menu);

it's always worth working on R2 side-steps, the 8 angles they work on, and the 16 angles for R1 sprints. These will help you win space around the opposition area whilst looking for the right opportunity;

Note R1+R2 with a 45 degree jink on the d-pad or left-analogue-stick will knock the ball on and send your player at top speed after it - this can be very effective for full-backs and wide-midfielders to burst past opponents and give them the space to pick a cross.

I LOVE TOAST
What i do is play a flat 4-4-2 you know a staright midfield like the defence.
Try to work it to the wing players and get crosses in

thanks!

Thanks guys! I've already noticed an improvement in my game. Since coming to this forum, I've switched from a 4-4-2 to a 3-4-3 diamond formation. I started marking the opposing strikers with my back line. I also sold Rivaldo and signed Totti and Henry.

I'm still working on the 1-2 passes, but my crosses get better all the time. And goals have started going in the net....I beat Udinese 5-1, AC Milan 3-0 and I scored 3 goals on Auxerre while down two men.

I still suck at free kicks and I still flub a lot of scoring chances, but I'm definitely improving.

Thanks again :)

I think you should buy kewell as he's very fast and he can play up anywhere in the mid and attack. Hes a good omf though hes not meant to play there, still hes good. Rivaldo plays in the same positions as kewell, i think it was abit of a mistake selling him as hes very good after while, though totti is still very classy.

soon you'll be playing on 4* :)
