The recent Tokyo Game Show brought with it a pretty huge Nintendo conference where the 3DS was priced and dated for Japan and worldwide was hinted at.
In Japan, the 3DS will launch February 26th 2011 at 25,000 Yen, with a worldwide release to follow in March the same year. The current weak dollar/Yen ratio means that it equates to $300 but most expect it to launch at $250 or less, so you're looking at around £175-£225 for us in Europe, around the same price point the PSP launched at.
The software lineup looks amazing so far, and is justification enough for me to get excited and think about splashing £200 on a handheld. Titles like Metal Gear Solid 3, Dead or Alive and the 2 new Resident Evil titles really show off the visual prowess of this machine. But then things like Ocarina of Time 3D and the prospect of more N64 remakes get me the most excited. Ridge Racer looks like the waddiest title inthe next video, but that is because it has been confirmed to be a quasiport of the iphone version.
But that's not all that is looking attractive to me, it's the feature set that comes out of the box. The Operating system looks nice, easy and fluid. There also suff like automatic mii creation using photos, the new wireless techniques for exchanging info, internet on the go with multitasking (ie pause the game, find an faq then dive straight back in without quitting anything)....the list could go on. SD card game booting out of the box is also confirmed, unlike the wii which took 2-3 years to allow that, with a 2gb included with every 3ds.
Oh and finally, the best news imo is the new DS Virtual console which will allow for classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color games to be downloaded, with Super Mario Land and Zelda: Links Awakening DX being the first 2 titles announced.
There's my fagging out over and done with. I'm massively excited for this machine, the most I have been for anything gaming related in a long, long time.
Anyone else intrigued??
