if any of you have played the recently released diablo 3 and have kept up with its progress, you will know that it is basically considered a failure in terms of quality of gaming and building off of its predecessors.
after playing d3 and being disgusted, i couldn't help but notice the similarities to how i feel about pes 2012.
first off, i feel i am in a somewhat unique position in that pes 2012 was the first next gen pes that i played. i had played the ps2 versions up until last fall. this really allowed me to view pes 2012 (ps3) with a fresh perspective and in direct comparison to the ps2 version (similar to comparing d3 to d2).
i played pes2012 for at least 100 hundred hours and it never even came close to the quality of the ps2 versions.
the game is so over simplified, so bug ridden, so sloppily and quickly done. it really hit me at how terrible this game was when i realized that whenever i play it, i feel im playing a "GAME" and not a "SOCCER GAME". success would be determined not really by how well i played, but how well i could overcome the many many overbearing quirks and nuances that had nothing to do with soccer, but bad programming.
the game feels cheap and that it was churned out as quickly as possible to meet a deadline and make money (much like d3).
the flaws became even more obvious when i started to play fifa12. regardless of how you view the fun factor of fifa12, it, at the very least, feels like a complete game. i don't feel insulted to play it like i do pes2012 and d3. i don't feel like i've been force fed a game down my throat.
one very small example: i've played fifa12 for hundreds of hours and i am STILL shocked by how i could play games and hear commentary that i've never heard before. meanwhile, after i switched to the pes2012 on ps3, i heard the same commentary that i've been listening to for years and years on the ps2. REALLY?.....
i think one of the best ways to think about it is like this: in both pes2012 and d3's case, if they were both made by independent gaming companies and given a completely different title, we would all be praising them saying they are really solid games with a lot of potential down the road. but they are not independent titles.. they are pro evolution soccer and diablo 3... and both are disgraces to the title...
i still hold out hope for both pes and diablo because i love the franchises. i will keep up with their progress and pray they improve in the future. but at this point, i can't play either.
