PES 2012 Gameplay Video: One On Ones
WENB have posted up a new PES 2012 gameplay video, showcasing more improvements that have been added, due to a much more complex AI.

This time, we hear Jon Murphy explaining and showcasing the new 1 on 1 manoeuvres and controls in Pro Evolution Soccer 2012.

and my comment there:

hmmm, players still have jerky movements, you can see them pause minutely. It looks like the legs animation have been tweaked.

Better than PES11 but still needs work. I think Konami should have focused more in this department first before adding new features and enhancing existing. I don't see how the challenge mode or the second teammate runner would entice me to continue play PES12 if players don't even look healthy when running!!

I hate that pause so unrealistic, looks like the player is fidgeting! I will wait for the demo, hopefully few lines of code by Konami to fix this.

One on ones rarely have standstill moments so that video is kinda weird.

Should be more like this!:

If you slow your tempo down you'll get those opportunities. Most people play too fast to see certain aspects of gameplay.

When I played pes11 I often held the ball up with the defender on my back. Sometimes if you are strong enough you can knock em over or turn off their shoulder. This style should be WAY more effective in 12 with players making correct runs as the space that you open up for them by holding up the ball will be exploited.

What I mostly hope in PES 2012 from one on ones is that the AI actually makes these moves often and often tries to drift away from the opposing players, for example in PES 2011 90% of the time in lets say BAL my teammates will run directly into a defender and piss me off.

thank you for that man cause that video didnt show one minute of one one it was one continuous flow of play!

One on ones rarely have standstill moments...

really?

C.Ronaldo is always standing still before jinxing the defender and running off. So does Messi. So does Neymar. And they all do it very frequently.

They also do the high speed dribbling as shown in your YT clip.

on a tangent: One complaint I have about speed merchant is that the changes of direction aren't realistic in terms of the animation. Yes Messi et al can do high speed changes of direction, but they do a certain digging motion to the ball (kind of dig at the ball into another direction) when they change direction very acutely (say around 90 degrees )... they really ought to introduce this into the animation...

I like the look of the feint system and the new defending but I have to say the feint system still looks too domineering. MLO will be close to the impossible for new starters late to the game against established teams with decent dribblers. I remain hopeful it won't be used as a one trick pony showing but suspect otherwise.

Oh woops! put the wrong video there! should have been this one!

What i meant with "they happen rarely" is that the player is rarely standing dead still with the other player just watching, standing dead still. They are too stiff, in real life the dribbler would be edging slightly forwards or left/right and the tackler would be "heckling" him or stooped lower, anticipating a move.

WELL , I think that new video for one on ones control gives us the idea for more fluid and controlling the ball , and of course we have to admit that it`s better than PES 2011 which the attcker has no options to control the ball because the idiot defenders always run quickley to you , take the ball and tackle from nowhere , and give us no choice to think and take our time to pass or dribble , but in this video we have more options to dribble , take the ball and pass forward , dosen`t that looks better than before , does it ?

Another point : If KONAMI make the defenders so professional to tackle and take the ball , we won`t enjoy the game as muh as we like to have more space and pass a defender or two then through the ball to another player , that is how to enjoy the game because most of us like to pass defenders and score goals .

Also in my opinion that if you are angry about the defenders reaction , I`m sure that the mode is lower than professional plus we remember in PES 8.9.10 we were moaning about dribbling and how to move the ball without being tackled . so for me , i`m happy with that video , we need a more attacking options and that is one of them , not alot of defending options though , Football is always known by Goals , and that means , MORE ATTACKING OPTIONS RATHER THAN DEFENDING OPTIONS .
Thank you .

What the fuck is that at 1:11 ?

It looks like a variation of an elastico, but with David Silva's set style/animation/personality/timing. A mixture of a few things + more freedom.

I agree some of these one on ones are far from perfect, but it is better than PES 2011 because at least you can beat a player on the normal dribble again, like you could in the glory days.

NBA 2K IsoMotion anybody? That's what it looks a little like to me.

You are right about iso motion, but remember iso motion is a brilliant feature in 2k sports

Ohh and Zizu I too am still awaiting a shielding system!

Th animations, although are not great, they're not bad as they're much smoother than in pes 11. Thing is, ANIMATIONS DON'T MAKE THE GAME.
Look at Fifa.
The animations are awesome.
But it has problems much bigger than pes because fifa doesn't even have a balanced game.

I am still missing a good system for shielding the ball...

Well, shielding the ball is movement within space, and considering the fact that it is impossible to move within the space, it should be impossible to have anything that realistically resembles shielding the ball.

But I agree, shielding the ball is an essential aspect of the game that has never been correctly simulated by any footy sim.
