Pes 2014

As a longtime (since PS1) PES fan I was incredibly excited about this years game. After last year's game - which, aside from insanely overpowered throughballs/speed merchants, was excellent - I was expecting PES 2014 to be a big step forward in the series.

So far my expectations have not been matched. I'm not posting this because I've just lost a game (I wish - see below) and I'm angry, or because something in the game went against me and I want to let off steam. I'm posting because I genuinely care about the series and I'm concerned by what are, in my opinion, big steps backward.

Here's some things I've encountered so far, having played the game a lot (on 360, offline - I'm not even getting into the whole data pack debacle) over past couple of days.

- I'm currently playing Master League on superstar setting. I've yet to lose a match, winning 8 and drawing 3, and have a + 12 goal difference. It took me weeks to get to this level on PES 2013, and I always felt I had to work hard for my victories. Yet on 2014 I've reached that level after a couple of days of playing. This suggests the game is too easy, and will offer very limited (offline) replay value.

- The menu systems are just awful. They look and feel about 20 years old. It takes an eternity to do anything.

- Players all handle in a very similar manner to each other. On 2013 there was brilliant difference between handling the likes of Aguero, Neymar or Messi, when compared to some average player. It was very satisfying to buy a new player in the Master League and instantly feel a difference to your team, because all players felt unique. Now all players feel very similar, pace is irrelevant as the catch-up-bug ensures you'll be swiftly caught by even the slowest defender within 5 yards, and all players seem to shoot and finish in an identical manner.

- Bugs. The game is full of them. Offside goals: many times I've viewed a replay of a goal to see the scorer was several yards offside. Sliding tackles: some perfect challenges, cleanly winning the ball, have resulted in a red card, other horror tackles that wipe out the man don't even result in foul. The graphics vary wildly between locations: some stadiums look lovely, some make everything on the pitch look cartoonishly terrible. Cursor switching is slow, unpredictable, and it's often impossible to select the appropriate man. The catch-up-bug (as mentioned above) makes the game feel very dated. Defensive AI is unpredictable at best: sometimes I simply don't have a defense (though I still won't concede as my CB will quickly catch up - which is a case of two wrongs NOT making a right!)

- Many new ideas are flawed. The new corner kicks offer very little variety when compared to last year. The manual throughball/shoot are nice ideas, but you simply don't have enough time in a match to use them because it takes too long to complete the commands.

Whilst all this sounds very negative, I do think there is the core of an awesome football game in PES 2014, but it just feels very rushed and incomplete. Some of the passing moves I've executed have been beautiful and show the true potential of this game. Hopefully some patches will help this game and the MLO (my highlight from last year's game) will be a success, but I can't help but feel this was a big opportunity wasted by Konami.

Add all this to it aswell since Konami don't read their official pages and respond.

Chris L. P. Sands Sorry Konami, I was one of the ones backing you up on pes 2014 (see the UK release post), but now I got hardcore into the game it is just awful. Rubber band defenders, if I go through on goal and I am say Ronaldo, and half a pitch ahead, i can get caught by lets say john terry in 0.000000001 seconds. The AI is the worst its been in years, the responsiveness is just terrible. the advanced throughball and shooting, neither work! In shooting there is a delay in the shot, and with the throughball, ill throughball it once, but the player who runs onto it decides to throughball again... Ive had players run up and kick my corner kick away before ive had a chance to kick it, the player changing is off again, it feels like an old version of fifa, players don't make good enough runs, there is no middle ground between jogging and sprinting, sometime they don't run at all, either normal dribbling is too slow or the sprinting is too fast and when you go from one to the other, there is no balance at all, you go 1mph, then boom 600 mph but then the granny on her zimmer catches you up somehow, it seems like it doesn't matter if you are 99 rated player of 65 rated player, they more or less play the same! Shall I continue????

IF THE GAME ISN'T FINISHED, don't release it! The thing that is most gutting out of all of this, I downloaded mine digital with the last £40 I had, and can't even take it back to the shop... And I bet you won't even have the decency to respond about sorting out a refund... I've brought everyone of your games since ISS days on the nintendo and have never been so let down by you lot. I feel like I have been robbed... This game is worse than FIFA, and I straight out refuse to buy FIFA, thats how bad this game is.... really really unhappy now, at first I think i just overlooked the bugs for my love of pes, and the fact you had got the graphics better and the player movement in general, say in training with no one else around me, it feels great, but that just isn't enough, no where near enough, even the loading of graphics is slow, sometime I play a match and don't even know what KIT im wearing... I could have gone out with that £40, now I have to sit in with a game I don't even want to play.... With PES 2013 I was like YES, Pes is the best again, now, now it's both PES and FIFA suck, and im just left feeling like I've brought pes 2013 for £80, because I'm going to have to go back to playing that again. If you had just made long throughballs harder in pes 2013 or made the defenders better at tracking them... You could have called it PES 2014 and I would have shown it 100X more love... this game is just AARRRRGGHHH!!!!!!!

Chris L. P. Sands Just to prove how bad this game is, I've played games online and offline on superstar and i constantly end up with around 67% possession, but my pass completion is a shocking 61% HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE???? I would rather face the throughball spammers in 2013 and do the manual defend thing, because atleast when i get the ball back, I can actually play football on that one.

Chris L. P. Sands And before anyone tries to say im a fifa boy, look at my profile, there is no fifa fan page, only pes... I'm that guy that spends 2 months editing the game, creating an option file before i usually even touch the game, thats how much trust i usually have with pes, even the PES games people say were bad, wern't, they were great, apart from 2012, where they messed up the defending completely... but overall the game was good... usually the complaints that people made i used to laugh at because they were minimal and fifa always had more... but this is just a kick in the nuts, I can't believe I chose this game over GTA... well thats goes to show how much I usually love PES, that i'd choose it over the most anticipated game in PS3 history.... so, so angry.... Konami, give me a job as a games tester so I can earn my 40 back, because I won't be swayed and will tell you if the game is even close to being ready or not... you might have thought it was a good idea because you'll make some extra money, but you will end up paying for this mess 10 fold, there is so many faults in this game, im not sure it's even patchable... And when nobody wants to buy 2015, what on earth will you be able to achieve when your budget is halfed?????

Chris L. P. Sands the fact that 1 out of 150 people have something good to say, says it all, and either that one hasn't played the game, or he simply like the fact the the AI is so poor you can play shocking and yet still win 1-0 every game... there is fludity in the players movement, but no fluidity to the game whatsoever... it's a horrible, horrible game to play, it doesn't matter how high you put the power on pass either, theres no zip to them, i can put my bar on full, the defender can be a mile a way, and he will still someone manage to stretch a leg and get there where the ball travels at 1mph.... shocking shocking shocking

Jose Luis Molina Amen brother, this game is not finished, at most is 80%, they should have release this game at least in december, is the worst PES in history, and as you, I chose this game over GTA 5

Chris L. P. Sands I mean, Haven't the boys at Konami heard of the saying being apart makes the heart grow fonder??? Not only the gameplay, they need to revamp the game modes as well. If they are serious about taking the crown back, maybe they should spend a year and a half, 2 years making the next one, getting loads of new features done and perfecting it. If they are that bothered about people waiting... surely they can get the graphics part and player/team database part done say six months before hand, make a standalone editor for all platforms that allows to pre edit the database before the game is released, giving them a solid six months to perfect gameplay... Imagine the suspense that would cause, players that edited the game for six months waiting would be itching for the damn thing, and even the competition would think, damn, i might even have to have a look at what they have done, waiting 1/12 or 2 years for a footy game is unheard of... that also means for the first year, year and a half, you can spend it getting the basics done aand then adding loads of new game modes.... even simple things like getting back all the classic teams and then having a classics section where you can choose classic 11 vs 11, classic indooor 5 a side where you can throughball to yourself off the walls, classic beach football, where sand can disort vision and effect the ball in crazy ways. Then in Master league, add what we all want, better negotiations, better media input, player and manager interaction etc etc, bring back coaches, don't bring back boots lol... just think of the possibilities... if they just made us wait..... common Konami, did what you did when you went on PlayStation from nintendo... pull a rabbit out of the hat... and then for that last six months, perfect everything, make us get excited to the core, make fifa get worried and boom, take back what is yours, because this game you have created, this isn't pes that we all know and love, it's embarrassing.
