I think it's got noticeably worse the last few weeks actually. I'm rated at 650+ generally, though this is well down on 2008, when I hovered around 750-800 with over 500 games, though this (as I'm beginning to realise) means nothing.
Here's two of my experiences this weekend that have left me thinking whether it's worth it any more to play online:
1) I'm on a good run of victories (8) in a row, and come up against a Spanish chap who decides to play as Arden Den Haag, I choose Arsenal (my team of choice, and I play allcomers with them, inc the usual Barca/Inter/United bum boys) and think "nice, I have an honourable man here". Anyway, I start the game and score within 5 minutes to go 1-0 up. He plays nicely, though it's a bit laggy and at half time it's 1-0 to me.
We start the second half with him hosting (as in he's the home side as such now and hosts the connection) and immeadiately I can tell something is up. My players are teleporting everywhere (something I hadn't seen on 09 yet) and he's literally jumping (teleporting) around and through my men. I concede, though I don't actually know how as from being 40yds out and passing suddenly the ball is in my net... I'm really getting unhappy by this point, as he's just constantly on the ball - I don't seem to be able to hold onto it and any dribbling or passing is immeadiately intercepted by him, almost like he can see what I'm doing.
Anyway, after some Fabianski heriocs (another unrealistic feature of Pro Evo!) I'm hanging on in the last minute waiting to see if extra time works the same way (ok 1st half, awful 2nd) and I get skanked with a bobbled-around-in-the-box corner to lose the game. He gives it all the chat "Well done!" and "Great work!" and all that. His rating comes up as 873 and he plays as Arden Den Haag every game.
I refuse to believe he's that good and look online and find a thing called a "lag switch". This allows people to make your game lag behind theirs, making it nigh on impossible to do something your opponent can't see 2 seconds before you do it. I remembered my complaints during the game that passes weren't being activated until a bit after I pressed the button, and now think I was basically cheated.
2) I play a guy who chooses Saudi Arabia, and I pick Scotland to be fair and nice. We start, I'm 3-0 up just before half time and starts abusing me for being too good to pick Scotland! I say come on man, I could have been anyone, and I'm sorry that I'm good! He messages me with "thanks, and unlucky", and the moment I've read that my connection cancels. I check my results, and I've lost the game. Bullshit man, absolute dog wank.
So he can win every game he plays - I check his profile and with a host of rubbish teams against Barca, Man United etc etc he's got a 100% success rate. What a cheat!
I know humans are aunts (check your predictive texting for what that really is), but cheating like that just makes it pointless playing the game. So sad, as Konami will suffer with this against FIFA, who's online is very good. Shame the game is poor in comparison, but I know what I'd prefer to play.
RIP Konami if they don't get it sorted.
