PES3 (PS2) Attacking is awful

Hello, i want to start of by saying i am a big fan off ISS and pes, and purchased pes3 on the first day it came out in the UK.

I have played it quite alot..atleast 35games now (generally 10mins)..and i find it almost impossible to score.

You cant take on defenders anymore, without doing some kind of special skills which work rarely...

Most of my games end up as 0-0, 1-0 (to me or cpu). I know that having 5 and 6-0 results is stupid, but it would be nice to get a few 3-1, 4-0, results occasionally, and a fair few of 2-0's.

I have no problem defending but find it diffucult to score (3*). Playing 4* i dont conceed, i just still cant score. in pes2 i was able to win on 5* with poor teams against the worlds best, i won 30games out of 30 in my master league scoring over 120goals(4 a game) and conceeding just 8 on Hard mode.

I play 442, or 352 (both formations worked on other versions), i used thru balls (floor and air), 1-2 passes, and hit and run balls....nothing seems to work.

I also dont like the poor AI programming, konami dont seem to be able to make a decent computer opponent so allow them to "cheat" there way to victory (or in my case draws)...extra bursts of speed, fouling, and receiving fouls for nothing challenges.

Anyone with scoring suggestions is appreciated, just wondering what other peoples views are.

the simple solution would be to play 2* difficulty until you learn techniques to beat the defenders, then build your way up to 5*

pes3 is a totally different game to pes2, u cant expect to beat the computer on 5* straight away. where would the fun be in that?

it was a lot worse when u could find a fast player and run through the whole team and score with them.

First off, you have to stop playing like you did in PES2. PES3 is an entirely different game. Take everything in, match by match. If you're finding you're struggling with the difficulty level, tone it down. May I also suggest toggling with the form arrows to find your niche, too.

Passing is much more prominent and necessary in PES3, along with first-time touches. Try not to dwell too much on the ball. Perform quick one-twos and when you have the opportunity, shoot.

Furthermore, try mixing up your attacks a bit more. Maybe try something from the flanks. Heading is easier in PES3, so I guarantee you'll be able to get use to that.

If you're finding the AI to be 'cheats' and it's you getting carded all the time, mess around with the referee settings. If they use bursts of speed, what's to stop you? Try pressing R2 while running for a change of direction and speed. Works best on the wing as you're trying to get rid of defenders.

Let us know how it goes.

i use alot of low ground passin and then cross it over for sum1 in space. Then gradually try getting it in the box and shooting. This takes a while but you'll overall get more posseion and your team will play betta for sum reason

Then it'll will be harder for your oppent to get the ball back. From this u can gradually play attacking footie!!

Give it time mate!!
I considered myself a top notch PES2 player, but was shocked at PES 3 when I started to play it. No more mazy runs and simple goals from the kick off. But, this is a great addition!! It's a TRUE FOOTIE SIM now - just what I love!
And believe me, when u get a goal, whether it be a scramble in from 4 yards, or a supurb half volley from 30 yards, you'll be jumping with delight!
Passing in this game is key, and slick moves by your player to wrongfoot the oppostion work a treat.

(although some offside and advantage decisions can be a wee bit crazy - its still No.1)

I think attacking is fine. After playing FIFA for years it really makes you work for your goals. And when you score you feel really satisfied. But I do think shooting could be improved. I find that most of my shots are piledrivers, with no curve whatsover even if I just tap it from distance. Is there something I'm missing?

ok, i played 2* and won 4-0 with rep of ireland vs argentina...without conceeding a shot on goal.

and i meant with the speed bursts that u may have for example henry and yet u get caught by a n.irish defender when ur running down the wing, then when you are defending u cant catch the com players up even with faster players.

the thing which is aggrovating me is that i never used to dribble my way to victory in pes2 as it was to easy, i used to pass it alot, and as i said i do use the 1-2's and pass and go and build up alot of play down the wing. I just dont like the fact you can never take on players, if a good striker is 1 on 1 with a defender then in real football the striker has a good chance of beating the man and going for goal, as everyone knows "defenders hate players running at them".

Anyway, thanks for your help and i'll try changing the player strategy stuff (generally play counter att)and the ref settings.

The amount of curve on the ball in the game is near perfect. Try holding down the direction you've shot for added curve.

hello again, i think my problem may have been that i was playing on too low a level (3*).

As i said when i put it to 2* the defenders dont run (r1), so it is easy to create goals (hence 4-0).
I have just played 5* with same teams, me as R.Ireland vs argentina and won 3-1. I think my problem before was that the team were pinned back in there own half which made it difficult to break through 10players.

Where can u change the REF settings? i see you can change who the refree is in exibiton mode, but dont see any settings..what can you change?

I think you hold down the analogue stick and also hold down the L2 or R2 buttons.

pes3 isnt harder, u just have to play more intelligently and realistically.

it will help you in real life football because it will teach you what to do in a situation. i love it, sometimes you will have to play 20 passes before getting an opening, sometimes you lose the ball, sometimes you play a killer ball and you score. its just like real life.

if youre struggling to beat defenders, use the shot feint, thats a good way to change direction quickly and fool the defender

SHOT! SHOT! SHOT!, the goalkeeper will make more mistake in pes3 comparing to pes2 -- this gives u the chance to scoring

I find using the R2 sidestep easier and more reliable when getting past defenders.

i played a few games of pes3 and i think that counter attack is the best way of winning a match....playing like 4-3-3...3-4-3...it's much more easier and you get a lot of space...i prefer playing like this specially when playing against my bro because he gets really upset when i win :D
