I currently play on the PS2 PES 9 version.

I have read here it is possible to see the hearts of your team players which represent how happy / content they are at your club. Can someone tell me exactly, screen by screen to see this as I've searched all over cannot find it.

Yeah if you have enabled player growth then afer every match the growth status will appear up and on the same screen as the popularity to the left of it is a heart and the more full the heart the more loyal and faithful the player is to the club. You can raise it up by playing the player more, keeping his condition well and playing him in his favourite position(s). Playing a player out of position will decrease his loyalty.
