Player Roles

Hi

I have a question regarding player roles. If you make a player a CMF when he is actually only an AMF, does it effect his play? I recently read a thread where people recommended changing RBs and LBs into CBs to stop them running too far down the flanks, but wouldn't this sort of action have a side-effect on players who's newly given roles are not listed in their personal 'position' settings? I understand that their abilities make all the difference and will determine how they perform, and the obvious no-go's such as changing a CB to a CF (he would find it hard to score), and changing a CF to a CB (he would find it hard to defend). But I wondered if it's scripted in the game that any player attached to a role that is not indicated in their personal position settings, will be badly effected. Either it all just comes down to the abilities of an individual (Hopefully) or there is a scripted 'side-effect' for playing them out of position, or both. Any help is appreciated.

good question, I always thought that it would be scripted and that any change of position would have a similar effect as the arrows, but maybe not. I have also read the suggestion of changing SB to CB to mute their runs which to me makes all the arrows on the tactic screens a waste of time.

So I guess it is all dependent on their personal attributes and the positions are just a guide line.

Definately seems that only their abilities matter. I always thought they would do things like drift out of position, look lost and generally not play well but seems this is not the case. Even if it is unrealistic they don't do this I'm glad it doesn't happen.

I like the way the Full backs overlap in this game , especially when you have someone like Mathieu bombing on. I'm not sure why ppl would want to change this.

If I am defending a lead I change to couter attack or all defence to stop them from going forward as much.

if you use all the options available to you, i.e attacking/defending levels etc etc you can set your formation to perform as you want it to - there is a slight bearing if you change a player from LMF to AMF for example, same thing with CB's - you'll have less width, which is a very defensive formation.

So who changes RB and LB's to CB????

Does it work? Is it better??

If you want all your defenders staying back, it works a treat. :w00t Before I just used the standard RB CB CB LB thing and always felt a little apprehensive going forward, but not with this configurement. You know they'll all be there if needed.

I'm a big tinkerer of PES and despite how many configurements you can make with the formation settings, you can't necessarily get it to perform how you want it to. So the option of being able to make unorthodox role changes adds much more depth, no question. I've got my formation just how I want it now with the four CBs.
