Playing a "fair" match online?

Hi Guys

Newbie here so go easy on me.

PES veteran up until PES 2009 then switched to Fifa but thinking of making the switch back to PES 10 years later (gulp!)

So, Ive got a loan of PES for a week before FIFA comes out to see if I can get the feeling back n my fingers. I've played for a few days and the gameplay is impressive.

I 100% only play online but, what I'm trying to ascertain is this:

How does one go about playing a fair match online ie playing against a similarly rated team so that skill is the deciding option?

I'm a Celtic fan, so tried Divisions Mode. Keep getting drawn against all the Euro big guns with a clear difference in squads.

Then I tried MyClub. Yes, I can build my team up but whether I have the better team of my opponent has, there is a feeling it will never be completely balanced.

So I played the Co-op mode. Choose Celtic. Got drawn against Porto, so Im thinking "ok" (they are still not "even" of course but not a "big" team)

But then I see his Porto squad and he has Ronaldo, Van Dijk, Nueur, Alaba etc etc against my Celtic squad. This wasn't my club, not sure how they can change the squad?

I guess I'm trying to say, and this has really puzzled me for a long time: for a game which classifies itself as an esport, where is the fairness? How do I play a game where the result is decided about skill rather than the team I choose? Is there ANY mode which guarantees a level(ish) playing field and not just about how big a team I can pick or how long I spend (or pay) to get an amazing squad?

I really have tried to get this answered for a few years as nothing would please me more to jump back over and give PES a good chance again. I am bored of Fifa after playing so long but it will let me play Online vs a similarly rated team (Season mode) or with a friend (co-op seasons) where you know if you get beat it is mostly down to skill as the teams are matched.

Really appreciate any advice you can give guys.
