PS2 version on the PS3?

does the PS2 version of the game suffer from slowndown or framerate drop?

i'm getting pissed off with unplayable matches, the other day i had an incredibly exciting goal mouth scramble which would have been even more exciting if the game didnt go into slide show mode! i'm not talking about the little bit of stutter you used to get in PES6 then it would stop, i'm talking constant.

what i want to know is, does the PS2 version play well on the PS3, cuz i don't own a PS2 anymore. Because if you had asked me a few months ago, weather i was going to buy the PS2 version of the game to play on my PS3 i would have LAUGHED in your face, and i would have also told you slowdown is the thing of the past because the power of the PS3 just won't allow it. But at the moment, unthinkably, i am actually considuring this possibility!

I brought the PS3 for 2 main reasons, Proevo 2008 and GTA4. I was gutted when the put the release date back for GTA4 and i'm gutted PES2008 has big problems.

also one more thing, Sony said that not all the Cell processors are running, do you hink in the future when they are all up and running the game will improve?

Is there anybody else that is thinking like this?
will the PS2 version play fine on the PS3?
does the PS2 version suffer frame rate issues?

My god, you are like my doppleganger! I too bought the PS3 for the same reasons as you (also, Time Crisis 4 appeals to me), and I'm seriously considering swapping my PS3 version of PES2008 for a PS2 version. What I need to know is whether it runs ok and whether the online mode runs on the PS3 without problems, because PES6 didn;t play online very well when using a PS3

yes exactly, and now i feel i've been raped and left in the gutter!

i don't want to waste (YET ANOTHER) £30 odd quid on the PS2 version to find that it doesn't run properly! As when i brought my PS3 i tried PES6 on it only to find it had a big frame rate drop and ran quiet badly. (then i thought to my self, oh well Pro evo 7 will be out soon, it'll be ok, in hindsight PES6 probably runs better on the PS3 the Pro evo 2008!)

so come on there must be someone out there using a PS2 game on the PS3 (i feel like a retard for saying that) its even crossed my mind to go out and buy a PS2 just to play a decent game of PES2008! how annoying will that be, that would be like going out to buy a Mega Drive II just so i can play sonic the hedgehog!

well the game played fine on the pc, so i don't understand how konami can screw it so badly on the ps3. Haven't tried it yet on my ps3 though.
whats a "doppleganger"? it better not be anything gay.

You mean lag online? Surely. Offline I think it'll run OK.

and i would have also told you slowdown is the thing of the past because the power of the PS3 just won't allow it.

You didn't count on crap ports, did you? That's how us PC users feel when companies don't bother to make nice ports of great games. Remember PES 3...?

also one more thing, Sony said that not all the Cell processors are running, do you hink in the future when they are all up and running the game will improve?

No, no. They meant that GAMES nowadays do not use all the Cell processors (obviously). The PS3 was designed to last well into the next decade, so there you have your answer. In the future, as they become more complex, games will progressively use more and more processors.

The doppelganger is a folklore figure, an "evil double" who looks like you. The word comes from German, meaning "double walker" or something like that, can't quite remember. Widely used in literature, particularly in a metaphysical sense. Try Dostoyevsky, Poe, or more contemporarily, even that movie by Schwazenegger in which he was cloned... The 7th day, was it?

well that makes it even worse! i could live with the framerate drops, but the more i think about it the more i think i shouldn't have too!

i am talking about offline, dont get me started on the online stuff and all that crap with port 5730!

on PS2 version

Have been playing the PS2-version on my PS2 for couple of days now I've been mainly satisfied with it. There is no slowdown and the gameplay is very much akin to PES6, I think. Though, my pal, who owned PES6, reported that it was noticiably developed from it, but he was drunk like duck when he tested the PS2-version, so I wouldn't count on it. I have been playing PES -games since ISS Pro, but I didn't get PES6, because the goalies and shooting seemed so lacklustre compared to PES5. These problems have been mostly solved in 08. PES08 is at least a lot different to PES5, so for me this feels quite refreshing. Perhaps this is more appropriate to get secondhandly for the majority, if you end up being dissatisfactioned with the next gen. But i reckon this is indeed a save and decent alternative.

Nah, I wish... I had to study that two years ago.

you studied doppelganger's 2 years ago? so what does that make you? a doppelgangerer? you have a diploma in doppelgangering?

anyway so far we have discovered the PS2 version is good on the PS2, now whats it like to play on the PS3? and can you still use the PS2 option file on the PS3?

i think i may go to Asda and by the game for £22 and decide for myself, i already have a max drive and a disc so hopefully i can just get the OF onto the game the same way using the internal PS2 memory card.

from what I hear there are far less features in the PS2 version and its not much different from PES6 either...

I heard your screen settings can effect the slowdown?

Well slowdown isn't too bad for me as I have a HDTV. I have had to set the ps3 resolution to 720 or whatever it is, which is a bit of a pain in the arse because I then have to increase it for some DVDs, but its not a huge hassle.
The thing that is enticing me towards the PS2 version is the possibility that the gameplay is better. I think that the PS2 version has many faults that hinder the gameplay (rubbish long passes, impossible to tackle players, etc). Additionally, there are some minor problems that when summed up also make the game difficult (eg. not being able to select kits in some modes - having two teams playing in white kits really does make a game difficult to play!)
So if it can be confirmed that the PS2 version works ok on the PS3, offline and online, I will probably switch over

yeah, but it doesn't seem many people have gone out a brought a ps2 version of the game for their PS3, why would they? that would be daft.

i didnt bother buying it today, because knowing my fucking luck i'll buy it and then a patch will be released and it fixes everything! so i'm gonna wait a bit, if its still not fixed by xmas, fuck it i'm getting rid!
