[RESEARCH] Team Strength Ratings

Following the latest release of my OF there has been a bit of discussion about the team ratings of some of the teams I have created so I thought I would do a bit of research to find out if I could pinpoint what effects this rating. As it is something that effects everyone who creates their own teams I thought it was worth posting what I found so we can all discuss out thoughts.

First up I took one of the fake teams that had players rated anywhere between 67 & 77 OVR & they had a 3 star team rating, I then transferred Ronaldo to that team & the rating went up to 3.5 stars.

I then removed Ronaldo along with the weakest players in the team so they only had 16 players all rated between 72 & 77 OVR & the rating returned to 3 stars. Next I messed around with the player stats of those 16 players so that the OVR was between 63 & 69 and the rating dropped to 1.5 stars.

So from all that I worked out that player ratings obviously have an effect on the the rating so I decided to look into it a bit further I took a selection of teams both IG & ones I created and totaled up the OVR rating for each player then divided it by the number of players to get an average rating, here are the results...

Atletico Mineiro 73 - 3.5 stars
Club America 75 - 3.5 stars
Western Sydney Wanders 61 - 1 star
Brisbane Roar 65 - 2.5 stars
Bayern Munich 82 - 5 stars
Borussia Dortmund 78 - 4.5 stars
Werder Bremen 73 - 3 stars

The thing I mainly took from this was there has to be something else that effects the rating besides just the player ratings as both Atletico Mineiro & Werder Bremen had a average of 73, but different ratings.

Next I totaled up the FW/MF/DF ratings for each team & divided by 3 giving these results...

Atletico Mineiro 73 - 3.5 stars
Club America 74 - 3.5 stars
Western Sydney Wanders 60 - 1 star
Brisbane Roar 69 - 2.5 stars
Bayern Munich 88 - 5 stars
Borussia Dortmund 81 - 4.5 stars
Werder Bremen 72 - 3 stars

Pretty similar figures, it could mean that the rating is based on these figures in the following way...

85+ 5 star
75+ 4 star
70+ 3 star
65+ 2 star
60- 1 star

with half stars for being above half way between the ratings.

I do however have another theory & that is that the manager also makes a difference, now obviously all you can change about a manger in the game is his name, appearance & nationality, but I was one of the community members who worked on the game database & one of the things we had to do was add ratings for the managers. From memory there were around 10 stats for them, now it is possible that they weren't included in the final game, but if they were that could be the missing part of the puzzle as to why to teams with the same average OVR player rating can have a higher team rating than another.

Anyway that's my thoughts, what does everyone else think???

Thus was the post you were talking about

The manager idea is interesting. Kind of reminds me back in like PES 12 & 13 where players had 'secret stats.' If you had a player like Torres who was say an 80 and base copied a new hairstyle for him defaulting everything else besides hairstyle his new overall would be a 79. To make things stranger even if you defaulted back to the old hairstyle you couldn't get the original overall back!

I do agree with your assessment of half stars an overall 63 must lead to 1.5 while a 62 and below is 1.

StringerBell Yeah back when that used to happen I refused to base copy hairstyles. The more I look into it the more I think the managers are the missing piece of the puzzle.

rebelinho No OVR of all players plus & hidden aspect which I believe to be manager ratings.

I've done some more delving, now anyone who knows me well enough will know that I hate OVR rating for players so I decided to check if it is just as flawed this year as previous years..... & it is (shocking I know).

I created a player with 80 rating for every stat & a A rating for every position then switched the registered position to each one, here are the results...

CF - 87
SS - 87
WF - 87
AM - 87
SM - 86
CM - 86
DM - 89
SB - 89
CB - 87
GK - 74

This means that even the registered positions of the players in a team will have an impact on that team rating. If one team has a lot of DM's & SB's & another has a lot of CM's SM's then the first team has a higher chance of having a higher team rating.

After looking at the stats of some of the teams I have created I can see where they need adjusting in some cases, but I don't think I'm going to worry about the Team Rating anymore just as I have never worried about the OVR rating of individual players (only the individual stats) ;)

That's the way to do it!
