Response Stat - What does it do?

Any idea if "response" affects player movement (i.e. similar to agility)?

In the piggback guide I have it is unlcear.

The point I'm trying to arrive at is that there are certain stats which will not help you at all if you are controlling the player yourself in BAL. The ones I know for sure (based on the piggyback guide) are Aggression and special attributes like dribble and tactical dribble.

Any others people are sure about? Is it a waste for me to try to build up response?

No, it does help you if you are actually controlling the character, and it helps for computer-controlled characters aswell

say if an opponent passes the ball, and you stick your leg out to intercept it, a player with higher response will have a higher chance of actually intercepting the ball

similarly it affects computer controlled characters, especially the goalie, as obviously a goalie with higher response will have higher reflex's

Also for centre forwards, its important because if there is a loose ball, and he has the higher response (higher than all the defenders), then he will react first, and hopefully knock it into the back of the net :)

What about turning and dribbling? Does it also affect your movement in a similar way to agility? I suppose I could easily experiment by creating a player with 50 response and a player with 99 and all other stats the same... But I would hope I have better things to do with my time than that. On the other hand, here I am talking about it, so maybe that's worse...

response is important mostly from when you are on the ground. if you have a high response you get up quickly and get to the ball first. low response players tend to lie there for a second or so first

Naa, turning and dribbling is where agility, dribble accuracy and dribble speed come into the equation

response makes you more attune to "where" the ball is.
Thats why players with high response are better at air play, i.e. headers and volleys.
Say for example you have a CF thats a big fellow, with high response, you can bet he has a good lvl stat in header and or jump. Maybe even have post player ticked.

If you have a CF with high response and a good lvl shooting, he'll have a higher chance of volley-ing the ball.

I experimented by creating players with 99 and 0 for response and it's true that it doesn't affect dribbling.

On a side note, I found that agility didn't seem to affect dribbling either, from what I could tell, but I may have to test more. Interestingly, I found that a player with higher dribble accuracy seems to actually run slower with the ball. If you are building up dribble accuracy, then, you should be aware that you should be also building up your top speed and dribble speed to compensate for the fact that you will be taking more touches as you run...

I'll do some testing on the idea of response affecting arial play and volleys plus I'll test out if it really affects your "get your arse up off the grass time." Goalies, obviously are affected by response, and forwards in terms of their positioning of course are affected as well, but I'm just interested in this from a BAL perspective. In other words, is it worth trying to build it up if it's not going to do anything really useful for a user-controlled player? My player has 68 for response, and based on what I see so far, I think it will be fine for me not to worry about getting it up to 75. Other stats will eventually pull it up to 70 though, which should be adequate enough I'm thinking for my player, who is a winger btw.

The best use of response is when a ball is centered or loosed by a goalkeeper or defender in the goalkeeper area and your CF is trying to shoot first, if he have a good response he will gain the ball and shoot quickly to score !!!
