LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (February 5th 2009) – SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. today announced they will be publishing Virtua Tennis™ 2009. Virtua Tennis 2009 will smash into action on Sony PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and downloadable for PC fans in May 2009.

Virtua Tennis 2009 will again allow you to take on the world’s top tennis players in some of the most realistic courts to be found on gaming consoles. Take on the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer or play as Maria Sharapova against Venus Williams to recreate some classic court battles. Joining this impressive roster of tennis stars are several new players for 2009, including men’s World No.4 Andy Murray and ladies French Open champion Ana Ivanovic. In addition to the traditional singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches, Virtua Tennis 2009 will also have the official Davis Cup license, giving players the coveted opportunity to lead their country to glory!

Virtua Tennis 2009 has extensive additions and detailed improvements to the classic arcade-style match engine like no other tennis game available. Player stumbling adds a new dimension to matches, while improved volleying, serving and net play allow you to express yourself on court like never before. In addition, the popular World Tour Mode has been given innovative new features offering a fully integrated online system, and new online ranking system available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Along with numerous other additions the Player Creation System in World Tour Mode has also been expanded, and a new look Tennis Store containing over 800 items will enable players to create their own unique Virtua Tennis Champion!

“The return of Virtua Tennis promises to be a real treat for both fans of the series and sports game fans everywhere” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director for SEGA Europe. “The tennis season is shaping up to be the most exciting in years, and with new players, courts, an Online Tour and extensive on-court updates – Virtua Tennis 2009 is sure to maintain its spot as the standard by which all tennis games are judged.”

Finally, no Virtua Tennis game would be complete without the ever popular Court Games and Virtua Tennis 2009 doesn’t disappoint! Fan favorites will be returning alongside each other in completely new minigames, ensuring the tradition is carried on into this new iteration of the series. But look out for crocodiles, fruit and pirates in Virtua Tennis 2009’s collection of unique Court Games, available to play as single player, multiplayer and online, and sure to have players coming back for more!

Ah sounds pretty alright :) I got Virtua Tennis 3, which looked brilliant, but the number of movements and shots was SO limited, with no online. It got boring quickly

ah same! Every time he started his jump it was ALWAYS a winner. But give me Lleyton Hewitt and watch me power through anyone. Duke was no match ;) Although I never played King :(

I suppose this will be alright for those who like to play an arcadey style game of Tennis, but for realism, Top Spin wins hands down.

I have both Top Spin 3 and VT 3, and prefer Top Spin. Not just because it has online, just that I prefer realism. VT 3 is really fast paced, whereas Top Spin is more true-to-life.

Looking at the above, it seems Virtua Tennis 2009 won't be all that different, apart from some new animations.

I'm unsure if 2K Sports are planning on releasing another Top Spin, but I'd definitely opt for that if it were the case.

Tis a great point there. Until there is a sense of risk from shots, it won't have a degree of realism. Every shot is guaranteed to go in. And theres no differentiation between any different topspin shots. And lobs are near impossible to pull off

Lobs on what? Top Spin?

FYI, before I stopped playing it, I pretty much had them down to a tee.

EDIT: The thing with Top Spin is, if you're willing to give the game a few hours to get used to it, you'll get a lot back. If you want to just pick up the controller and hit a button when the ball comes to get it over the net and in play without effort, play VT.

That's why i prefer virtua tennis to top spin.

I borrowed VT3 from a friend. I don't like it. The training mode is so unrealistic -> giant fruits, huge barrels, etc

Can't really tell much. I'm sure it'll stick to its arcade roots. Hopefully have some decent online, well A fucking online mode at least for the PS3.

I created a player on Top spin 3 and my first match was against the Nr.1 player in the ranking. I beated him without a problem and it was my first time i ever played top spin. I thought that was bad and they haven't put nadal in the game so i went back to the shop and get my money back for returning it. It's was a bad game!!

Sorry for my bad english!!

Virtua tennis 2009 will be featuring 20+ pro players with 8 new players and 3 legends.
Spanish Virtua Tennis 2009 Boxart shows another new addition David Ferrer to the player line-up
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/6167/virtuatennis2009.jpg

This means the temporary player line-up contains the following:
Men
Rafael Nadal
Roger Federer
Novak Djokovic
Andy Murray
Andy Roddick
David Ferrer

Women

With Murray, Djokovic, Ferrrer and Ivanovic being 4 of the 8 new players. It will be interesting to find out who will be the other 4 new players.
